Hi from South Africa! With a couple of questions

I've got a gen Seiko kinetic, auto relay, which has treated me very well for the last 6 years, I would like to now start a small collection.


I've ordered this Tag Grand Carrera Pendulum Hand Wind watch from prestige and have got a couple of questions whilst I wait for it to arrive.
I've scoured the different threads and have found most of the answers to my basic questions, but some answers I haven't been able to find:
What are "ar crystals" and "PVD/DLC" coating?

With this hand wind watch, I understand this movement should give me about a 40 hour power reserve, does that mean that I should wait for it to run out, or can I wind it, say, every morning when I get up?
Also, does it matter in which direction I should wind it?

Then on to the subject of waterproofing, I've read Gloarmani's excellent post, WRT this watch,

will it be as simple as removing the back panel and applying some silicon grease to it and the crown, or are there a couple of things I'm missing?

PVD and DLC coatings are coatings applied to the steel cases that give them that dark (black) appearance. Although the results of PVD and DLC are similar they are completely different processes and DLC is far more durable than PVD.
AR coatings are anti reflex coatings applied to the crystals in very much the same way as eye glasses have lenses have anti reflex treatments. This reduces the reflectivity of the crystal making the dials more readable in some lighting conditions.
As to waterproofing of your watch, sometimes a little silicon grease and tighten up the case back and crown is all it takes, others it takes a little more, it varies from model to model. I would recommend that you have your watch pressure tested at a local watch smith before taking it for a swim.
