Case Reworking – The Prototype - Second Stage
The case is now close to being complete, just a small tweak to the bezel needs to be made...The movement is in now place, (images show a test movement as I didn’t want to damage my 618). I 've made the brass case ring for the Molnija as below and will start to make another for the 618 and probably 616 as well. Both bezel and Case Back fit perfectly together .
Small pointers to note:
- A) The Bezel is much higher than the standard bezel, its also thicker around the top ie the flat part next to the Plexi ( top of bezel not actually shown in the images).
- B) Case bored out to take larger brass movement holder
- c) Square peg added on the inside of the case as per authentic version (this is to stop the movement rotating when case back and bezel is screwed in place. The Brass movement holder also has a slot cut so that the square pegs sits inside this slot, see image below
- D) Case Back has inner thread same as authentic version (standard or silix types have external threads)
- E) Bezel is screwed down onto the brass case ring
- F) Recess added for the plexi O ring and rubber bezel ring
Providing I am sent the right type of case then I can machine out and convert cases into what you see below...
Next stage... Solder the lugs and crown tube, and make a few different brass movement holders to take other movements...
