The 'proper' buying process?

I'm about to finally make my first rep purchase on here and maybe I've just missed it but I've tried searching and looking at various guide/faq links and can't seem to find anything about how buying works. Individual dealers have their process but how does it work in regard to the site itself? I mostly ask in relation to the "feedback score" on each profile, and possibly the "geekbux" (not sure if it's related too).

You can arrange to make a purchase from somone on the trade forum by sending them a PM. From there, you are usually expected to send money via paypal, and they ship whatever it is you want once they receive payment. From dealers, you either buy through their website using paypal/western union/credit card/bank transfer, or follow the same process described above for purchases made on the trade forums.
