What happened to the Geek?

I'm really disappointed in RG. This board used to be like family to me, but things have changed.

When I first joined, I loved the people that I met on here. Fun to talk to, knowledgeable.

Now there's has been a new stream of individuals.

Aside from the fact that a lot of the noob buyers out there are flakes, telling you how interested they are, having you answer many questions, only never to hear from them again, the real disappointing part has been what happened recently:



I saw a watch that looked like it was priced the same as a new one including shipping from the dealer. All I did was merely note that in the thread. Call it threadcrapping if you want, but I frankly don't think it is. Merely stating the fact that it's the same price as you can get one new.

I then received a PM from the seller, with the following language:

Thanks for thread crapping on my Rolex Sea Dweller thread. And thanks for following up a while ago with the video you promised. Also, people aren't interested in seeing your hairy body (arms and legs) and repeated posts of the same Milgauss.

I responded that I have never seen anyone comment on my photos as described above. His response was:

And you couldn't take the time to dress more appropriately in the second picture that you posted twice. I didn't ask to see your legs and socks, but when looking in thread of pictures I can't help it because you've put them there. It's a fact that I don't want to see it, but you've made it so I had to.
Again, I'm mentioning this in private. Not public.

I then forwarded this to the moderator, who told me that they won't do anything about it, because it's a private message.

I am not upset with the moderator, because it's the rules of the board, but really? It may be a private message, but it's between two members on this forum that you oversee.

I normally don't get offended, but these comments were highly offensive. And all because I said that the watch was priced the same as a new one?

I'm disgusted. I don't even know what to say. Sure, I'm not perfect, but I happen to think that I am a decent, upstanding member of this board, and that anything less than banning this individual for their personal attacks about my appearance would be unsatisfactory.

It is a shame many of the longtime members don't seem to frequent the forums anymore.

Most of the noobs are good but some can be a nightmare to deal with.
Think what we really need is some new reps to be churned out to get the hobby going strong again, the crackdowns this year that occured I think affect not only the supply but we are starting to see members drop out of the game as a result as well. I think the increase in scams over the past 2 years is a factor too.

Not sure about the whole hairy arms/legs thing but agree about the noobs and the tire kicking. I've had more guys pm me with multiple questions and then never even respond or ask how/when I can ship and then never hear from them again.

If some turdwad wants to get his marbles off by being a tool to you, then I hope you take it at that - somebody had a bad day and wants to feel better about himself by undeservedly bashing someone else. That is one of the downsides of Internet forums. If it was at work then you could get some satisfaction in doing odd things to his lunch in the fridge or calling him when he is out with his wife/girlfriend, pretending to be an old girlfriend threatening a paternity lawsuit [not that I have ever done those things or condone them :D ] On the Internet some people are so brave.....

Have a look over at RWG where things are getting so out of hand they are thinking of banning the whole forum. This place is like Bucks Pal in comparison.

you know, I had that same feeling as you about a year ago, sixers, and it was on this forum. I was very disillusioned at some of the things going on here, so I took essentially a self imposed hiatus till just recently. I am only now starting to post somemore.

I am getting the same bs on the "other" forum and I might just go cold turkey on that one for a while longer.

I hope I've contributed my fair bit on this forum and proven to be a trusted member, but some members seem to have just made me feel like not wanting to be part of this community anymore. It's good to see long time members, but I know some long time members who have not returned.

Clearly there are some good guys left here, but I knew that part. Just don't want to get outnumbered by the douches.

So is RG any different than RWI, really? I think RWG is a little different and RWG1 is way different. So are they all the same to you Sixers? Maybe one is less douchey than the others. --edit-- that douchey part sounds weird. I mean, do you enjoy other forums more than RG? Some may have more comradery. What makes it more fun?

I found that participating in get togethers made for a lot better sense of community on some other hobby forums.
