Who needs gen looking docs?
I’m often puzzled by the occasional request for gen looking papers, warranty cards and occasionally a gen looking case for rep watches.
What are they for? Why would anyone want them?
Do the purchasers of these items walk around in public with the papers displayed around their necks, or perhaps stuck to their forehead?
OK, the box I can understand – sort of. At the end of the day it’s great to put your Rolex (Other brands available) into a nice case. I have a gen one myself (case that is), but I didn’t buy it, it was something that I acquired when the retail jewellery company that I worked for closed down its head office.
But as for the documents, who sees them other than the owner?
I think that most of us on this forum would not think of trying to deceive any potential buyers by producing these papers as gen, thereby suggesting that the rep they were selling was in fact also gen.
So, I’m really curious as to what incentive motivates the acquisition of these items. Have I missed something obvious? Do the owners take them out of their filing cabinet and look at them lovingly for a few minutes and then place them back?
The watch you would want to be as close to the gen as possible, I think everyone gets that. It feels great to have a close approximation of the genuine article on your wrist as you walk around town; and if others see it and assume it’s the genuine article, well that’s not our fault.
Perhaps the owners of these paper pretences carry them on their person so that if they get called out, they swiftly dive into their rep Pierre Cardin wallet and flash them in front of their accuser saying ‘What you say to that mate!’
To which the answer will probably be ‘They are fake too, so put ‘em back into your fake wallet.’
Perhaps I’m being a little harsh on my fellow forum members, for which I apologize in advance. But I’m genuinely curious; what is the point of it?
