Nice to meet you all!
Hello - I am Surpur and I just joint this forum.
I am a watch technician and work with like you call them here 'gen' watches for several years now. Selling on ebay a lot, but also repairing. My passion are vintage chronos that I restore and sell. So I do not have much of a permanent collection. Some pics below.
I also sell Asian 7750 Chronograph and other Chinese movements and Japanese Rolex magazines on ebay - let me know if you need movements!
I got recently into getting some Rolex Reps. I had a gen Sub some years ago, but sold it again. I noticed the original oyster bracelet got scratches on it very easy - and I do take good care of my watches and do no manual labor that would be hard on a watch. Now since I bought a high quality Sub Rep I do not see any scratching on the bracelet after weeks. Anybody know if the 316L steel is harder then the one Rolex uses?
Anyway - glad to be here and if you have questions I will gladly answer.

Welcome to the forum. You will be a great addition to the knowledge here on the Forum. Especially since many of the high end reps use the A7750 movement.
As far as your question, Rolex started using the 904 steel in 1989 so if your sub was older than that it would have had 316. I personally thought that my Rolex which had 904 seemed to scratched less than my other watches with the 316. Not a huge difference though.

I got my gen Sub in 2001, so it was the 904 steel. They just came out with the new style divers extension. Now on my rep I am amazed at how accurate the bracelet is - even the extension works in the same strange way. I think on the oyster bracelet is very hard to tell any difference. As for the jubilee - the gen bracelet is more flexible and feels better on your arm then any rep jubilee bracelet I have seen. It is a dead giveaway for anybody who knows the real one.
To answer Xyphis: I got my Sub rep from CQout 'executive watches' with the ETA 2836-2 and it looks and feels so real, only opening it will reveal the truth.
