I always assumed "backdoor" sales meant closing a sales thread by stating "gonna keep this one for now" Only to find out later on that it was sold to another member. This happened to me on a gen forum when I tried going for a gen Tag Aquaracer and the douchebag stated "sold" then I see it up for sale by another member 2 months later.

I've never encountered this type of backdoor dealings. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for it but who in their right mind would buy into it anyway? After-all we're geeks not gullible. =D

Ahhhhh crap... so is it a bad idea then to buy from someone who PMs you to sell you something when you've posted about interest in another thread? They're a "VIP Member" with some positive feedback so it didn't occur to me that it was dodgy so much as just trying not to hijack the existing thread... :S

I think you misunderstand. VIP members have selling priveleges so i don't mind them contacting me if i place a WTB ad or mention it in a thread. Non-VIP Members with less than 100 post that do this is not allowed

Best way is not to buy anything by PM if they have what you want tell them to post it in the correct member section in the correct format. There is a record of it then if things should go wrong the Mods can look into it at least

Same with members offing services use them by all means but don't expect the Mods to have too much sympathy if they are not accredited on the forum as watch repairers . You have been warned to only deal with people who have been vetted by Admin they do this for a reason and the reason is to protect you

Big deal. I have them tatooed on my chest. Which turned out to be a bit of a problem, actually, because 1. My chest is hairy; and 2. I can't read them in the mirror because the words are reversed. So in order to follow the rules, I have to shave my chest and use two mirrors. Anything to stay on the right side of the law!!
