You are absolutely right. Fit is something overlooked by both genders. People feel that if something isn't loose then it isn't comfortable. Comfort can be achieved with proper fit.
2. No pleats. Flat-front trousers.
You're right. But they can be useful if you have a mini gut.
3. Invest in a good pair of shoes. If you're going to invest in nice clothes, don't forget the shoes.
No argument from this corner!
4. Don't wear a 49mm sports chrono with a suit.
I saw this at a wedding. A man was wearing some huge diver/pilot/chronograph thing with what was a fairly nice suit. There's no way he put his shirt on second if that watch went on first. It was simply to large for the look and too large for his tiny wrist.
5. Cotton dress-shirts that breathe. Don't go with poly-cotton blends.
All-natural fibers or GTFO. Also, stain removal from a blend is terribly difficult!
6. Your belt colour should match your shoes.
This is not a hard and fast rule. There are exceptions but generally I agree.
7. Don't dry-clean a suit too often - the chemicals will wear down the suit's fibres.
Dry-clean once or twice a season, and have it pressed in between
This is true of any garment that goes to the dry chemical cleaners. LOL
8. Invest in a good quality overcoat if you live in an area that gets cold in the fall/winter
Sounds good to me!
9. Don't get caught up with brand names. I wear clothes with the brand names, but I also have very well-made clothes that are less well known. Speaking of which...
This should be a given. Name brands don't equal quality; often you're paying for the name.
10. Don't advertise a brand-name blatantly on the front of your shirt. You are not a walking billboard!
I am not such a stickler for this. I love logos and think there is nothing wrong with emblazoning any designer's name, logo or anything else on a garment. Sometimes you want to be conspicuous and other times you don't. But I love logos.
11. Dress your age. I've met a few guys in their late 40's trying to look like they were 18. C'mon!
OH, I WILL BE WRITING ABOUT THIS AT SOME POINT. I am sick of seeing very, very adult men in t-shirts that have some allegedly pithy saying (or something vulgar). And the ladies with spray tans and super short cut offs with cottage cheese thighs . . . I will not be saying any more about this.
12. Wear clothes that suit you - ie. colours that work well with your skin tone, clothes that suit your height/weight, etc.
Very much so. Sounds easy but we see what happens in reality.
13. Think of your socks as an extension of your pants when you are wearing dress pants.
Yes, please.
These are really such good basic principles, it is a wonder people have so much trouble following them!
