Please don't instantly del. pics in trade section after sale..

A few days ago I came accross a nice watch in the trade section. It was a bit too expensive for me, but I really liked the model. So today I was looking for it again, but couldn't find it anymore, took me some time to realize that some people take away the pictures when it is sold, and even change the title to just "sold". Like that, I don't even know what watch has been sold. I would have liked to save the pic of that watch as well..
Maybe it's just me...

Have you checked your internet cache...the photo should be there

In addition I think locking the threads so that pictures cannot be removed is important is it provides the buyer with some sort of protection.

If the watch arrives and it is not as expected then you have the OP as evidence. I had this happen to me a couple of years ago, the watch was delivered with the subdials not resetting but the sellers original post showed them aligned when I bought the watch. Unfortunately by the time I received the watch the photos had been removed which made it harder for me to argue my case that the product had been mis-represented.

Narikaa - totally agree with you and after being caught out once I always try to do so. However human nature dictates (in my case anyway) that we won't always remember!

In any case it's nice to have a back-up but I suppose we should also consider that the board needs old content to be swept away for reasons of bandwidth/server capacity etc.

I suggested basically the same thing but for other reasons, I suppose what it comes down to is even if the thread is locked and saved as is, if you don't download all the pictures they could be deleted from the remote server they are on.

It's also nice to have at least the OP intact to see what $ the watches are selling for. Makes it easier to find the market value for a piece that I might be interested in selling.

I might be wrong, but I think things are cleaned out because we are using more and more bandwidth at the servers. Keeping all those photos really adds up.

I never really thought about it until the other day, but whenever I *used* to add an image to my post, I'd just upload it to Repgeek. Now, I have a photobucket account, and just direct link the pictures from there. It saves space here, and costs nada.

We gotta start conserving space around here. Right-click is your friend. If/when I see a picture here I like, I save it to a folder. Takes just a few minutes to find it again.

It's not up to RG if they are hosted somewhere like photobucket. After I sell something, I delete them from my photobucket to keep things clean. I don't want to hang onto photos of watches I don't have anymore.

there are many other places to host pics if you don't want to hold on to them.

Good Topic guys.

We lock the threads right after the sale and the pictures can not be removed but if the person removes them from their photo host then there is nothing we can do about it.

We mark the threads Sold so that everyone knows the watch is sold. In the past we would mark Sold and leave the tittle intact.

If this is what everyone prefers we can do that so you can see in the thread tittle what watch is being sold.

What say you.

i like the idea of putting a sold before the item in the title but leaving the title intact.
i have also gone back pages looking for a watch. ie bearcat i think had a cool seiko for sale on blue nylon at one point, i used that for a reference pic to find another one on the bay.

I would also prefer if the price would be left intact. Its nice to be able to gauge the market.

I understand that threads become locked once announced sold, but who is to stop the original poster from editing his post to remove the pics and prices. Could we ammend the "Watch sale and trade guildlines" (http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=40) to prevent this from happening?

We are not removing any of the sales threads right now and we are now leaving the tititle on the thread and simplay marking it as sold. However if the seller remove the pictures out of the photo host then there is nothinga that can be done. At least you can see the description of the watch and which one it was and the price it went for.
