    Default Newbie question regarding SSD

Hi all, I notice that the oyster band on my SSD does not have the 5 digit number stamp on the underside near the lugs. My gen oyster on my GMTII & rep Submariner both had this 5 digit oyster number that is model specific. Is this normal on the SSD?

Also, how can you tell the difference b/w the Super SD rep vs. the regular SD rep w/ the same Swiss ETA movement?

The SSD is about 2MM thicker than the original SD rep. It should have the serial number stamped in between the lugs, under the bracelet.

Hi Keith, thanks so much for the warm welcome! Been spending lots of reading time here. Just eceived my first two reps from Andrew- SSD & "retro"dial Omega Speedy!!!

Andrew is an awesome seller BTW, props!

Watchaholic, thanks for your info. You're right about the case thickness. I was wondering, when measuring this thickness, do you measure from the surface of the crystal to the surface of the case back?

Also, I am aware of the serial number of the case hidden between the lugs, but I'm referring to the serial number of the Oyster band itself. I've seen various pics, some SD's have this number on the backside of the first link and others don't- which is accurate?

    Thanks,
    Eddie

Measure thickness from top of crystal to bottom of caseback. 14.5 for the SSD and 12.5 for the SD. Unsure of the serial numbers on the bracelet.

The new SSDs do not have the bracelet code under the bracelet near the SELs. They only have it (visible) on the inside of the bracelet clasp:

Forget that the old SD rep even exists. It's just a sub case.

Not to mention, with a few quick & cheap mods, this piece looks so close to the gen it's not even funny:

Welcome here. Good choice on the SSD. Hopefully Sead1999 will get one soon for me. Again, welcome.

Another question fellas. I noticed once I removed a couple of links that the links that come w/ the SSD band, particularly the center links are differnet from other Oyster links I have had, i.e. they are "hollow" instead of solid w/ a drilled hole. Is this normal or a new style? I think this design, if new, is actually a step backwards as the hollow links make the overall weight much lighter, more clangy noise, and the links get stuck too.

All the bands are supposed to have hollow center-links. Solid screams "fake".
