Default Collector of too many things saying Hi!

'emHi folks - very glad to be here .... just wanted to say my first official "HI!"

As per topic: I collect (gens and reps)

    -- Model Trains (Hornby etc.)
    -- Montblanc pens
    -- Watches, of course
-- Books on design and architecture - and I even read 'em!
-- Other people's architectural cast-offs (redoing our hallway with them now - pics available for anyone who's really that bored ... or honestly into Georgian/Victorian architecture)

I only have a few rep watches at this stage ... they are as follows:

    1. Cartier vintage styled SS watch with brown leather and white face (fantasy)

    2. Jaeger as above but round

    3. Porsche Design Diver: P6780 - a really nice and cheap rep ... basically a copy of the gen, with the usual discrepancies of course!

    4. Montblanc quartz analog white faced chrono ... a really nice rep that looks very funky yet classic.

    5. Omega Seamaster Professional. This is the famous "cheapie" with the orange bezel. Bought it to heave at least one watch of this style in the drawer - this thing is really a nice rep actually.

    6. Breitling for Bentley Flying B Chrono - this one is the low-rent version and not that close to the original. That said, I think it is a very nice watch and a great time keeper. Anyway it has inspired me to buy the ultimate version which is on its way as soon as I decide which 'other' watch I want from the dealer as they couldn't supply the other part of my order.

Anyway, great to be here and if anyone's interested I'd be pleased to post some pics of my modest collection

    Welcome to the forum!

I'm also a collector of too many things, although different ones than you. My vices are watches of course, folding knives, scifi books, radio controlled cars, trucks, boats, planes and helicopters, and movies. I just can't seem to do things in small measures. In the words of my favorite author "Moderation is for Monks"

Looks like you already have a good start on a rep collection. Careful, hang around here very long and it will grow quickly!

KrisOK thanks for the warm welcome fellow-OCD sufferer - I do hope "collecting" scifi books, also includes reading same

I love the SciFi and (selected) Fantasy genres - R.A. Heinlein is top of my faves, others include Philip Jose Farmer, Piers Anthony, Richard Cowper, Barbara Hambly and on it goes....

I've read at least PART of every book that I have. There are some authors that I've tried that have a writing style that I just can't get my mind around, and abandon the book somewhere in the middle. On the other hand, there are at least a couple hundred that I have read 2 or more times. And a few dozen that I have read MANY times over the years. Heinlein is one of the authers that I reread time and again, and I've got an ALMOST complete collection of his published works. At last count I was just on the north side of 1300 scifi books. I LOVE long series, and have all of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series and Piers Anthony's Xanth books, as well as MANY other series.

I'm also VERY fond of military scifi, and have almost everything that David Weber, John Ringo, Elizibeth Moon , and David Drake have ever written.

But then again, this collection has grown for over 40 years. I don't spend every waking hour reading SF

Again, as Robert Heinlein's Lazeraus Long said "Moderation is for Monks"

    so you're a fan then?

LL .... what a guy! Just re-read everything in that "series"

On the final pages of a wonderful series now by Robert Holdstock.

Know what you mean about not being able to finish 'some' - I found that with David Eddings (spelling?) .... just didn't care about the characters and no one seemed to die.... just didn't seem credible

Forgot to mention my all-time fave Stephen Donaldson's Covenant Chronicles - they rival Tolkein in my opinion. (let the flames begin!)

LOL As I read the first 2 books of the first Chronicles of Thomas Covanent way back when they were first published, I wanted to reach into the book and slap some sense into that guy. All that crap happening around him and he refused to believe it.
