Question about reps and people with money
I almost have more watches than fingers and my left foot combined. My watches are bought to celebrate a special event e.g. a raise/ getting a new title. But I'm not satisfied and want more watches, especially that sexy JLC Moonphase, RM from ZF Factory and Daytona in Carbon Forge coming out soon... I can't keep on spending money on watches. What do you all do to reign in the spending? Selling some watches is hard because they tend to have sentimental value...
I need help... watch rehab maybe...

Good question. .
Now, are you actually wearing all your watches in a weekly rotation?
I always get rid of the watches that sit pretty in the box, but are rarely used.

I've never purchased a rep watch to celebrate any occasion - seems like your cheating the event and should buy a gen
Most guys I know place a limit on their collection - mine is 5 gen and 10 reps. If I want a new one, one must go.

I don't know?! ... I've been at it for more than 20 years, and I have more watches than fingers and toes ... and then some! GEN's and REPs. And I can't get myself to sell them!!!

If you buy watches to celebrate various events and you have many of them, then buy bigger watch boxes to accommodate all of your watches. Only sell a watch if the sentimental value of it is no longer applies. Selling watches with sentimental values only leads to regret.

Just keep buying them. You will know when to stop when the money runs out.

I keep buying the ones I really like that I think are worth spending and always review this process before the purchase.
Right now, I have two watches on my list that I'll be buying soon.
Design your own watch game and follow along.

I buy anything I fancy the look of, and sell any that don’t continue to interest me once I’ve had them for a while. I don’t feel like I have to sell any of them, and am keeping a lot of them even though I rarely wear them, just because I like to look at them, and see them within the wider collection.
I thought I’d be slowing down the rate of buying by this point - but I currently have 8 more on their way to me from various sources - TD and M2M!

I just have a huge pile of some nice watches. I am going to start parting a few for a boat project. So it is sort of like having a bank account or cash reserve on the side. Most of my gens are limited edition and some are hitting 50% increases with current traders. I have a couple nice connections in Japan and Thailand low build region specific Seiko models. Nothing to get rich with but making a profit from a watch a collector really wants is nice. Fills their collection and my wallet.

Eight more! Are you aiming to be the first TD on the IOW?

I don't own any reps now, only gens, my latest being a 47mm smartwatch running Android.

Ahh, but could you fix it if it went wrong? These watches have a tendency to fail when the isosynch chip, has a conflict with the nanologic circuitry bypass module. Have you got the specialist equipment to sort it? You will need a magno-thermo sensor and reactive patch bios isolator- and of course a steady hand, which I know you do have.

With todays throwaway society I would simply buy a new watch when this one fails mate.

I ordered 3 JK vintage Subs from Marvellousreplica recently (because at $100 a pop they’re a steal!), then two forum members over the road each had 2 watches for sale I fancied, and I’m still waiting for a nembo watch I paid for some time ago but got held up shipping from HK (probably due to the unrest there).
I keep saying to myself - and to Mrs. N - that I’ll sell some on, but then I see them all happily nestled together and don’t have the heart to...

I'm so confused, are you a man or a woman?

Why, would it make any difference?

It would make a difference to someone.
But quite right, nobby elses business.

I wouldn’t mind, but P4GTR and I did a deal a while back - thanks to him I have a very nice Swiss-powered PO in my collection (and he kindly sent me a couple of movements too, one of which now powers an SD43 which conked out soon after I got it). So, I have reasons to think fondly of P4GTR, but he doesn’t even remember what gender I am...

Have to agree with that if it is a life type event. 40th or big promotion etc. I have no reps at the moment as I struggle with the idea of rotating them with quality gens. I am thinking of buying another one soon though but if it's anything like the last few I won't keep it long because as much as I appreciate what they're trying to be I usually find myself suffering from a bout of cognitive dissonance.
Turns out he was right.........

I think it was your reference to Mrs. N vs the line in your signature that confused him - err.. confused her; I mean confused that particular forum member. Phew, I think I just got away with that.

Aaaaaaaaah... the penny drops. Of course, using Tapatalk our sigs disappear, and I’d forgotten all about it. I’d also stupidly assumed that anyone reading it would instantly recognize the title line from the Velvet Underground song, and what it refers to... and then connect that with my addiction to reps... I mean, it’s all so crystal clear - to me!
I may possibly change my sig.

LOL, you won't get much of a rep fix for $26, at least none that are worth having.

oh jeez... That sortve a question doesn't work on a generation X, we paved the road for tolerance and not caring about anything. To answer your question no it doesn't, I'm surprised I cared to ask, but I think I've asked before and maybe I'll ask again. I like women and it would be nice to have some on the forum, especially since RG is a respectable establishment with no dedicated porn section unlike those other low brow joints.
God, I miss Victoria. Doubt anyone will even know who that is..
