Hello from California!
Hi guys I just wanted to introduce myself before i do some extensive research on reps. I've been going watchless for years and figured its about time I invested in a couple watches to go with business and casual attire. They just add that extra level of class!
I was actually looking at more inexpensive homage watches (specifically the Parnis Pilot) before my friend referred me to this forum. Now I just have a couple things to say/ask before i jump into this world of reps.
I assume everyone here are just normal guys like me that want to get the best bang for their buck and doesn't believe in paying the ridiculous prices for a brand name watch.
My only gripe is... personally I don't think I can bring myself to wearing a rep. Mainly because if it's not the real thing then it's not the real thing. Why try to be otherwise?
I would rather spend the same amount of money if not more on a quality custom replica with sterile dial or homage watch than a rep. However, if this isn't possible for some reason, i would suck it up and buy the rep.
The way I see it so far, the quality all comes down to the dealer. It's no longer a brand issue when it comes to quality in reps.
Maybe someone can shed some light on this hobby. Is it a demand issue? More people want replicas than quality watches which is why dealers don't offer quality watches with sterile dials?

Welcome to RepGeek, H1.
This is like any other hobby - just friends who are fanatical and interested in all things watches. W/o investing hundreds of thousands, you can own 10..12 ...200  of your dream watches.
You are right, if you seek 1:1 accuracy, the same type of quality as a 10K watch, the ability to smash, swim, and wear it with the same carefree attitude as a gen, rep's will leave you disappointed.
Bur ... with a little care, tlc and some basic servicing, you'll have a great watch, or 12, that will look as real as the day is long to 99.99% of the public.
Lots to read - make yourself at home and again, Welcome to RepGeek - it doesn't get any better then here!

California. Awesome. I miss California.
Welcome and I would say try out a few reps and see what you think. Quality is all over the board with reps (just like gens!), but read the forum and you will learn which reps and dealers offer what you are looking for.
I own gen and rep watches. Love them all for various reasons. I just love watches. Have fun and don't take it too seriously! :)
