    Default It started with homages...

    Hi all,

I started working for a Swiss company a few years back, and quickly became obsessed with watches after seeing some particularly interesting pieces on the wrists of colleagues. I have a tiny collection right now that consists of some inexpensive gens and homages (Citizen Nighthawk, Suunto X-Lander, Modded Seiko Monster, Vostok Amphibia, Alpha Submariner, Helenarou Marina Militare, etc.)

As you might gather from my username, I love the Panerai PAM090 Luminor Power Reserve and I am on a quest to find/mod the ultimate perfect rep of this model. Seems like most of the reps of this watch have an exhibition caseback and a quickset date button, both of which are incorrect. I know they are out there with the correct caseback, but I will probably have to do a case swap to get rid of that date button. Every rep I've seen has it, and as much as it pains me to REMOVE a nice bit of functionality just to be more accurate... I think I'm willing to do just that.

I'm not into building a collection, but I do want a watch box that represents many different styles, so I have a short list of watches that I plan to be acquiring soon (in order of preference.)

    Reps:
    Panerai PAM090 (obviously...)
Rolex Milgauss (white-dial - and maybe PWC's GV, too, since it seems too good to resist at $99...)
IWC Portuguese Chrono (white-dial, blue hands & numbers)
Bell & Ross BR02 (PVD with arabic numerals and a gen nylon strap)
Lange Zeitwerk in Platinum (at ~$75K for the gen it would be pure fantasy even as a rep - anyone who knows the piece would instantly know that it's a rep, but I wouldn't care!)
JLC Reverso Squadra (chrono or otherwise, but only if it has an automatic movement and approaches 1:1)

    Gens:
    Marathon TSAR (on bracelet)
Tissot Le Locle (beautiful white guilloché dial and roman numerals - to wear when I travel to Switzerland)
Seiko Spirit SBFT003 (world time, solar/atomic, high-tech goodness)
Robert Lighton San Remo (can't explain it, just love it)

That's a restrained selection, right? And I think that just about the only style I would be missing would be a regulateur... But I will still be within my self-imposed constraint of having no more watches than I have pairs of shoes!

So, thanks in advance for all of your guidance as I begin my descent into this crazy world of reps!

Thanks for the kind welcome, everyone!

So far, from my list I have only picked up the Milgauss with the white dial (the PWC version.) And, to be honest, that's kept me pretty happy during the week. It's kind of perfect for my needs - a dress watch that satisfies the Swiss name whores (my coworkers) but has a subtle geek appeal. The only time I even consider picking up one of my other dress watches is when I'm wearing something that clashes with the orange on the dial.

And regarding Breitling... sorry, but they just don't speak to me. The tabs on the bezels, the weird slanty bracelet links, the shiny bling factor so many of them have... they're just not my style. The only ones which might appeal to me would probably be the aviator style pieces and for that I already have my Nighthawk.

I can't believe it's almost been a year since I joined RG! You'll definitely be seeing more of me in the near future as I try to source my ultimate PAM 90 before the holidays.

    Cheers!
