Default Thanks Welcome Bot For Becoming A Member!

Welcome Bot, has just joined us @RG

Lets welcome them to the site.

Thanks Welcome Bot, from the users of RG

    - - - Updated - - -

On the serious note though, seems that the new bot that got implemented sparked a few controversies here and there

Will it be a permanent function or the staff is just testing this feature?

As this is the Comments & Suggestions field, my suggestion would be to fix the posts in a way that the new user is always mentioned and notified of existence of a new thread. I've seen quite a few posts in which the user is named in the title and post itself but is not mentioned, therefore if he's not using the What's New section he'll be pretty much unaware of the thread that just started.

I am a bit worried with the quantity of welcome threads, though. Wouldn't like to see the forum spammed with welcome threads that no one is commenting in. But i'm eager to see how will this work out. If everything goes as it should, we'll have less lurkers and more active members... which i think was the staff's goal in the first place.

So where is the supposed "controversies" posted at, as i've only seen you post about hte welcome bot?

As the bot dont post in this forum, im not sure why your pointing this forum out?

The user is notified, once they verify their email by clicking on the link in the verification email they get directed to their thread.

By controversies, i meant the DragonSlayer’s welcome post.

This subforum is the comments & suggestions subforum therefore, as i wanted to discuss the Welcome Bot, i’ve started the thread here.

The notification thing, i did not know.

It wasn't a controversy if you had read the 1st welcome post; before i played that joke on him, it would make more sense to you.

Thanks ThomasCrown For Becoming A Member!

The whole point of the Welcome thread is to let the user know that its appreciated that they joined the site.

There is a very LOW number of users that actually post in the intro forum to announce themselves to the site & members.

    Added Note:

I tested the mention in the bot text yesterday, it dont/wont trigger it, i actually wanted it to, as that is a stand alone system, not a part of the welcome system, thinking about it more now, that would be redundant like the original welcome PM, which is now disabled as well.

I definitely would suggest removing the welcome bot thread from the "New Post" feature as it would make it quite hard to follow for those of us who use this feature daily.

It's made the new posts function practically useless, right now 25 of 30 new posts on the first page are welcome posts.

My bad, that was me if you cared to check the poster. Did not realize there were so many new members that I have not welcomed. But then again, if there are so many welcome posts on the first page, then might I suggest clicking on the second or the third page until you find what you're looking for? Or the specific section if it is to be found there. Lots of ways to go around the particular inconvenience.

    Hey There,

Once again another original question from a noob. How the hell do I operate this thing?

So I have joined and like most non annoying newbies avoided the temptation to jump on here and ask a lot of avoidable questions. Like hey "TD can you message me on the forum" or "what is the best Sub" so on and so fourth. I've just been straight up lurking reading as much as I can and trying to educate on what is crazy fascinating while daunting. Who new it would be looking into Timepieces on Hodinkee YouTube videos would lead me down the amazing road we call the replica path!

I am now however at the point of what do I do here, never being a forum member or the like, it seems there are some protocols in place.

My first hurdle is I would like to PM a TD however I can see that "Until my post count is 15" I cant contact anyone but staff.

Who is staff, I saw that you welcomed a member today, so assumed are you Staff?

Also what do I post, I dont want to just spam stupid ****.

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers in Advance,

    Another muppet noob V1.0

God Damn it I just messaged this to a goddamn bot? Well there goes my credibility of being an informed individual.
@AnthonyG you may be able to assist with the above message to HAL?

Sorry, i can't help you as im not involved in the rep game.
@mysterio or @daytonadragon can better assist you, it would also be better to start your own help thread/post.

Hi there, relax you haven't messaged this to a bot, at least i don't think i am one... lol

None of these questions are "noob-ish", more like newbie-ish but that's alright, everyone was a newbie one day.

To answer your first question - by staff we mean basically the guys who run this place, from the admins and founders (Brobert, AnthonyG, etc.) to moderators (mysterio, wimpie007) and section mods. Apart from running this forum, those guys also contact TDs (trusted dealers) if something goes south as well as often negotiate between members when something goes wrong in M2M transactions.

There is indeed a 15 post requirement in order to send PMs and often new members have trouble with it, perhaps administration one day will decide to lift this requirement.

What can you post? Well, pretty much everything mate, don't worry too much about it, most folks that we bust for spamming are lazy noobs who discover the 100 post requirement (in order to sell stuff) and are in a rush to get there, resurrecting five-year old threads on the way by pasting "Welcome from Tajikistan" ...

BTW if you want to contact TDs you may perhaps send them an e-mail rather than a PM, in fact i have never sent a PM to a TD, only e-mails. If you can't find an e-mail to a TD you can feel free to ask someone about it in the shoutbox or even open a thread about it, i've been in this game for years and even i have trouble finding TD's e-mail address sometimes. Current website address is usually much harder to find as websites get seized pretty often.

    Cheers Mate,

Bloody helpful lot around here! Appreciate the help and the directions.

Another one for you... I swear it will be my last on this thread! Being that this is here to cater to most tastes in timepieces, I cant help but notice there is obviously a large majority interested in Rolex and the like, and obviously a big market and quite a bit of choice. Do you happen to know of any one around I should follow who is interested in Zenith or Glashutte reps?

Or is it a case of just shut up and research the hell out of it and this forum will have it?

I noticed that a few weeks ago RWI seemed quite intuitive and easy to find fodder to add to my knowledge, but looks like its gone to ish and now I cant even sign up?

Once again mate appreciate the heads up on the TD info. Oh and one last naive question what the hell are GeekBux and what are they used for?

Zenith and Glashutte are pretty rare in rep world... well, compared to Rolex they're pretty rare in the gen world as well, which doesn't change the fact that they're amazing timepieces. Rolex used the Zenith El Primero movement in the Daytona up until 2000...

Zenith has its own section on this forum however some threads about Zenith can be found in other sections, in this case you could say that search function is your friend, they're not as popular as PAMs or Rolexes so you won't get overwhelmed by the amount of search entries
    Anyways, that's the section: https://www.repgeek.com/zenith/

Glashutte is even less popular around here and doesn't have its own section but don't worry, i've seen some threads, just type Glashutte (actually it's written Glashütte but the proper, umlaut form is probably pretty rare on international watch forums...) in the search box and have a read.
Here, i've done it for you: https://www.repgeek.com/search.php?searchid=5495628

RWI had a titanic failure in the last months which resulted in some major changes, that's their new address Forums - Replica Watch Info

GeekBux was previously used in the Game Room but since its deactivation it doesn't really have a use. There are plans to bring Game Room back, though.

I actually bought a Glashutte rep and waiting for it to arrive. The demand for Rolex is very high (every other thread is about it, which is sad) but I'm interested in other brands that unfortunately do not get on the spotlight, or are difficult to find reps. Such as Glashutte, Jaquet Droz, etc.

I've got the Senator Sixties, even though I wanted another model the others have some flaws that I could not live with.
I'll post pics when I get it, although knowing how long it takes for Brazil's customs to process things, I wouldn't hold my breath to hear back from me :/
