    Default Overwhelming!!!

    Greetings everyone.

I had no idea this world of rep collectors existed, as I've only purchased a couple in the past.(both from Trusty Time, and both beautiful)

I currently have a "perfect" Rolex Milgauss on order....

The one thing I have to say though, is that this site is overwhelming!!! It almost seems like everyone is speaking in a different language, and I have to play catch up in order to understand everything. There are sooo many references to #'s and initials, I have no idea what anyone is talking about.

I also had no idea people are out there modifying these things w/ factory parts to increase their resemblance to the real thing. Not to mention the lubricating, washing, waterproofing, etc., etc. This place is a real eye opener.

Anyhoo, thanks for a great site, and I can't wait to waste away hours of my life on needless research!

    Hi and welcome to RG.
I remember the first day I've found RG and how everything was as you say a different language to me hehe. You'll find out that soon enough you'll know every Panerai model number by head though

    Welcome to RG!

I started out like you two years ago and now I'm modding and servicing my own watches and have amassed a huge amount of horological info that is squirreled away in my brain. Take your time and do a lot of reading- especially the stickies at the top of each section. That'll give you some great base knowledge to work off of.

BTW- Even I can't keep up with all the Panerai info... guys really need to be savants to remember the minutae of that damn brand

Thanks gents. I appreciate the kind words.

I'll say one last thing; I spent a few hours at work today browsing the site, and I'm actually starting to decipher allot of the lingo regarding all of the Rolex movements, dealer names and abbreviations, etc.

You have to read a ton of posts to start to get it, but it does come to you eventually. I've noticed the sticky on the abbreviations only refers to the parts of the watch, but NOT all the dealer, model abbreviations.

The sad part is, I'm really very, very familiar w/high end watch manufacturers and their offerings (as I've been a watch fan for years), but this place is INTENSE, bordering on fanatical!!!

Thanks again everyone, and not to drop my knowledge too soon, but I hope to be modifying my own Rolex just like BK in a year or two

You'll find a lot of us are considered by friends to be a WIS (Watch Idiot Savant).

We'll notice the 2 angstrom difference in placement of dial text with the naked eye from 20 meters that the actual people who make the gen would need a scanning electron microscope to see

Sounds like the long blue claws are sunk in deep with this one! Welcome, and freely ask any questions, we all enjoy strutting our watch-fu around here.

(how long will it take for the GF or wife to notice the constant blue screen on the Ipad/ laptop/ or 'whatever-they-call-them-these-days'-computerscreen thingies...)

    Welcome and best wishes!

I can tell u that rep forum members show way more passion and knowledge than their counterparts in the gen world. Besides, you know being less arrogance.

Not only will you feel strange looking at any programmes that don't run with a blue screen background, you will feel the need to double check the sales forum several times a day and ***** when work and real life cause you to miss that one rare part you have been searching forever for. That and the subterfuge required to continuously add to your growing collection without the wife locking up your visa card (I actually keep a secret card at one of my clinics
I have come up with the "what new watch, no this one just came back from getting serviced/modded/altered" line, the "Ok no more watches for the rest of the month" line, the "I had to buy this one, it is super rare and never come up for sale" line, the "okay if you let me buy this one, I will buy you a new one as well".
The great thing is that my fiance will now point out watches when we travel, "hey check out that guys Panerai" in New York last month, "Hublot" in Vegas, and various "Breitlings" and "Omegas" and "Rolex" in Hawaii over the holidays.
    Welcome and enjoy!

Ya know, It REALLY helps having a forgetful, ding-bat wife. "This watch? New? Hunny, I showed you this one 3 weeks ago, remember? You liked it and said it makes me look like a wicked sexy man-beast!"
