Default Case Reworking – The Prototype - First Stages

Had an idea a while ago to convert an existing case but never did anything about it. Recently I bought a Cortebert 618 movement and decided it was time to give it a new home.

I felt one of Patronofchainsaws (Hixxy’s) cases would be a great starting point, its close to the authentic version and has many good points in its favour.

The project is in its early stages, I have a few modifications to make, for example the front bezel isn’t quite right... however, until now it was an idea, there was nothing to say it would work...the only way to find out is to make it for real and see....fortunately it does work and by that I mean all the parts come together in the right places...it now needs tweaking.

    The build so far:
I’ve made a new front bezel (threaded screw on type) New Case Back with inner not outer thread (screws onto the brass case ring not the case). The Case body has been bored out to take a new threaded brass case ring and will have a square peg inserted as per the authentic version (stops case ring rotating when tightening up).

I have a few jobs yet as you can see from the images but once all the components are in place I plan to polish them to a mirror finish, then solder the lugs and crown tube. I will also be making a 3646 dial instead of the 2533 shown in the images. Once everything is complete I'll drop the 618 engine into it and off I go...(to be continued)

great so far, however it's always a shame to see gen vintage movements behind solid casebacks, even if it is more authentic

    The work is fantastic though
