Exclamation Do NOT help our new RepGeek friends/members!

Isn't this the mantra? "Sheesh, day-um noobs!" After all, We all started off as experts and true "RepGeeks", never seeking the 'best sub' or wanting 'the best watch', right?
We all jumped right in, used the search, read all the threads and fully immersed ourselves in the hobby before asking a question, right?

I joke of course, but my message is basic:

Isn't the point of our hobby and site to share?
To help offer advice and learn from each other? We were all new at one time and needed some expert opinions or even a quick and friendly Welcome!

Many of us/you have a tremendous amount of knowledge to offer. You have acquired a knowledge base that is both impressive and vast. We are not and will not be stagnant - our site grows like a forum on viagra, we are constantly growing and continually helping and sharing our hobby with each other each and every day.

Our sharing of knowledge and skill is not a chore or a hassle. If anything, it is a tremendous compliment to be able to help and give back to the hobby we all enjoy. We are all united by a passion for watches, regardless of which of the 120+ nations we have here that we hail from.

Your helpful reply or 30 second explanation may plant the seed from which a new lifelong friend and fellow enthusiast may grow.
Who knows, tomorrow a new member may join our ranks and soon become the next stellar modder or expert on dive watches. They may also simply save thousands based on the sage feedback you gave them regarding a scam site or some advice on a watch to look into.

Our sites continues to flourish by leaps and bounds because the civil, welcoming and approachable members we are. You are helping build the next generation who will take our hobby to an even higher level of excellence!

All are Welcomed here at RepGeek and all are encouraged to participate and share/learn, laugh and make new friends!

The entire RepGeek Team and I thank you for making RepGeek so friendly, helpful, fun and welcoming!
Keep up the good work and spirits!

    Cheers and Semper RepGeek!

Welcome to RepGeek - fun, friendly, flame free and informative.

    OUTSTANDING POST!

I've been pretty busy IRL and working on a few things (the Fukushima updates and several things in the sandbox) and haven't been as active as I usually like but....

Trashing new members has NEVER been acceptable. There is a nice way and a nasty way to point someone to the search function or to link them into the correct section where an answer might be.

If you comment at all- do it nicely. Heck I remember asking some dumb effing questions when I first got here and what I got in response was solid info. I expect to see the same courtesy extended to everyone else here.

As a "who has the best sub" first time poster myself, I completely agree. I realize there are some thing that can be found via the search feature and I know it can be frustrating to read the same posts again and again - but I also realize that everybody is a newbie with newbie questions at some point. I always try and be sensitive to this.

We all started somewhere. Many of our knowledgeable experts on RG started out with little knowledge and gained it through the generosity of this community.

Personally, I joined RG a few months after it launched back in 2007 and outside of 'lurking' on other boards and owning some pretty bad reps, I knew very little. One thing that struck me right away was the encouragement and support of many of the members on RG. That's why I stuck around and enjoy being part of this community.

Muppet-shmuppet, I care not what others think of our, "be nice", tennants, nor will I ever waver in my desire to teach what I know. Many of us have plenty of real drama in our lives, we do not need to come here for it. I will continue to welcome new folks, and explain what I understand about our hobby.

Six, great reply bro. What a great thread J-C, and I am a proud "longtime" noob.
Man, Repgeek dealers may also sell some wares on other boards, but Repgeek is where they get feedback, post in threads and listen to members suggestions.

Why? The best members on the best forum, and the place where I add to my ever growing book of knowledge.

Being a bit of a n00b myself I can really relate to this. I think this should be the basis of all forums - to share knowledge and help others.

Thankfully for the most part it's been a really great experience and that is why Repgeek is my favourite forum!

But of course this does go both ways.

When a noob asks a question and someone responds a thank you is in order. Its just common courtesy. Its not as if this is our REAL job (well to some it seems like... )

Like most things in life, the Geek is a mirror. If you come on here as a noob with a snarky attitude, you get the same from the veterans. If you come on here with a willingness to learn, the majority of the geeks will treat you well.
