I just realized I never made a new member post, although I haven't been around too long. After owning a couple of gens and really being into watches but not able to justify the cost of collecting them, I stumbled across a rep in March that really blew me away.
I went online and starting looking at reps and reading reviews on websites that sold them. I found a website that I thought was great and all about quality, after all they had Swiss and Japanese watches for sale, how could I go wrong?
So I ordered a automatic "swiss" rep for too way too much money, a common mistake that I'm sure a lot of people make. When it arrived I was disappointed in the quality, I knew there was no way it would ever pass for a gen to anyone who bothered to actually look at the watch (photo of the watch and what i got were very different). I knew there were better reps out there though, because I had just saw one a couple weeks back, so I continued to dig around the net and try find out where to order my next watch from.
Luckily I uncovered the info that most of these scam sites also ran review sites (which I had used) and listed the site I bought my first rep from as a scammer. I knew it! But what to do next? Luckily this website I found offered, for the low price of $18, to sell me a list of reputable dealers. So I figured that the $18 would be well spent if it saved me the hassle of dropping hundreds on another **** rep, so I bought it. The guide listed Josh, King, Angus, Andrew and one other dealer I can't remember. I took a look at the websites, and decided to buy from King for my first watch.
After I placed the order (via Western Union) I got a little worried. I had just spent another $400 on a rep, and I didn't want to get burned twice, so I googled Connie to reassure myself that I was going to get a good watch. The google search led to to RWG, and from there it was easy to find RG and RWI. My watch arrived and was absolutely perfect, and my real interest in the hobby began. I bought my next two watches from Angus, and I was so impressed by the service and communication that I've ordered 3 more from him since then, he makes me feel like I have a friend in the rep industry and I really appreciate that level of personal attention.
RG was having some server problems at the time, so I started posting a lot on RWI, and still do. Now that RG is back up, I started posting here and love the group of people. You really can't beat this hobby.
I went a little crazy the first couple months and ended up buying around 8 various "ultimate" reps. Realizing that I could never suddenly start wearing that many watches without people thinking that I've lost my mind, I kept my favorites and sold off the rest, and really like where my collection is at. Although I still obsess about what watch i'm going to get next, I've managed to keep it under control a bit and am trying to limit myself to a really nice rep every couple of month, next up I think will be the Vac 114, BK DSSD, and a Tour Auto with Lume and AR. Although I never pass up a good deal on a serviced or modded watch in the member sales
So anyways I'm looking forward to contributing here, and am glad that I found RG. SFA has already hooked me up with some gasket sealing on my 026k and I couldn't be happier. I hope you guys all get to know me!
