Default Noob Looking For GMT Advice

I am a newbie to the board but have been collecting reps for some time (albeit really crappy, cheap ones). I really want to get an Omega Co-Axial GMT and/or a Rolex GMT Master II. The money is tight right now since I'm in lawschool so I don't think I can spring for any of the watches in the $300 range. I've done a lot of reading on this board but I haven't heard much about the "newbie" 21j watches from Andrew. I think I'm going to stick with purchasing from Josh or Andrew right now and then when I finally get a real job go for a BK. Any advice for a lowly newbie.

Does anyone know specifically about the "Newbie" 21J GMT 2? It looks nice enough but Andrew has been less than descriptive in his emails. He basically is telling me that it is not as nice as the $238 model, but I have no idea whether that makes it suck or just a little less perfect.

There's only one really good 16710 GMT: The Noob factory GMT. I have no idea what model Andreww is selling. But bklm1234 sells the good one. Yes, it's expensive but if you're looking for a good one...

But even that watch requires plenty of mods.

Another option is the "Retro" GMT by Joshua. It's very nice, but it doesn't have the rehaut thickness.

This is all you need to know about replica 16710:

pilot, nothing he sells really 'sucks', its just a different model. similar to a base model car you would buy. If you want all the bells and whistles, power steering, heated seats, bigger and better, I'd suggest you go w the better model GMT.

If all you want is a very nice GMT to start with, the a21j model will be fine. I have many 21j's and they run like champions still after years of service.

cheers and good luck w your purchase.

Welcome aboard. I bought a "bond" Seamaster GMT from WBK (one of the most respected dealers on this board). It was less than $100 and feels and looks great. it needs AR to resemble the gen. I plan on getting the crystal AR'd and I think it will be the rep deal of the century at that point!

The gen Omega GMT doesn't have AR.

I'm not sure about the brand new versions, but this was the case for over a decade.

Thanks Bytor. I am obviously mistraken. I thought the Bond SMP had it so I assumed that the GMT version had it as well. My bad.

The whole SMP series (save the PO) didn't have AR at all. Neither did the chrono versions.

But the brand new SMP chrono (with red lettering on the dial) actually DOES have AR. So perhaps this is the case with the brand new Co-Axial GMT too? I doubt it though, as the Co-Axial "Bond" GMT hasn't gone through any recent model changes (not that I know of).

Either way, the lack of AR on the rep is accurate, so no need to coat it for accuracy.

Everyone, thanks for all the good advice. Mb1, does WBK still sell that watch? I saw some of his current offerings and they look really nice and really reasonably priced. The fact that he is a US dealer is a big plus too. By the way, love the Magnum avatar: my favorite show as a kid.

I would check with him. He can usually source what you want. He has black dial version advertised right now but if you PM him and ask for the Blue wave dial "bond" version I am sure he can get it.

His pictures are never the best but every watch I have got from him looks awesome in real life! Buy with confidence!

PM'd wbk and got a response in 5 minutes with a beautiful "bond" for an amazing price. I will post when I get it and take some nice shots. Now I just have to play the waiting game.....................

WBK has a Omega GMT now and he is a good honest dealer. The Asian 21j movment is a work horse of a movment and can be replaced for $30.00 plus labor.
