Noob question, how do I quickly tell what version a watch is the most recent? I generally read through forum posts about expected releases and such, but that's pretty inefficient.

Welcome to the forum. Only way to know which version is which is to study up. Looking at the "New Releases" section on some of the dealer websites will help too.
