New guy to Reps

I like to buy reps of gens I want to get to see if I will like the Gen.

Not one to wear Reps as a rule. But interesting corner of the world. Don't really understand it though,

Welcome to RG. What's not to understand. Simple enough as you said yourself. You're trying a rep make/model watch on for size to see if it suits you before dropping real coin on a gen. That's a certain aspect of reps and it's what many do too.

I see subvette is working himself in a little quieter than he did at RWI. Well his wrath is soon to come guys. After putting rep watches and members down and being rude to moderators and members at RWI he was banned over there. So just a heads up. This guy is unbelievable. 31 pages in just two days from his demeaning posts about us rep collectors and rep watches in the general discussion area after we were nice and helpful to him. Good luck with him.

Well, all that I will say to him is you are the only one losing out.
Most member on rep forums own gens and a few have collections that make gen only collectors jealous.
The knowledge and passion that you see here is why I have stayed and it's a narrow minded fool that can only see in one direction.

There are some mod on RWI that are just brainless.. this is my opinion. This is why i prefer this place better.

Having spent a few hours wondering and drifting onto both RWG and RWI, I naturally find myself back here in RG.
It just seems so aggressive and clique for me there and unless you have a million post counts, your comments are merely ignored, which is a shame.

Good luck to them though, we are a part of the same hobby in the end, rep or gen and if having a forum that is able to spot the minor discrepencies on a rep on fleabay and save an innocent buyer from losing a lot of hard earned money, then it is worth being a small part of them.

Happy New Years to you guys too. I guess I just posted this because I was one that personally helped the guy out with him being a newbie, and then to have him turn and basically call us all idiots for having reps and being in this hobby because he bought a very low end watch thinking it was going to be exactly like the gen. Then started putting us down and rep watches down. I tend to take the time to help new members out to learn about watches where others don't sometimes. I'm just like you guys. I love horology, and collecting reps, and the occasional gen when I can. and yes, that thread is ridiculous. after having bought two low end reps he now knows everything there is to know about reps. and I'm sure he'll post that here too soon. It's just pretty crappy after you spend time helping someone out and they take a dump on you like that.

anyway, happy new years. Looks like a lot of great info and members on this site too.

It's his journey, so hopefully he will make the make the most of it.
I have learnt more about my gens having been a part of this forum and now have a very unhealthy addiction to both gen and rep alike but one day I will get better.

Yep, this is a great forum.
What can you do, some folks are just rep-ist, don't know why, reps are just a gateway drug to buying gens.
Iwould of never dropped decent £££ on a gen if it wasn't for reps...
