Default New Member looking to make my 1st purchase.

    Hi All,

New member here, I've only recently stumbled across the world of Replica watches, and its got me excited at the amount of quality reps that are available.

I'm personally in the market for a rep Tag Heuer Aqua Racer Calibre 5, or a Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch. I recently purchased a Genuine Tag Formula 1 with a blue bezel, and lets just say my partner wasn't happy when she found the receipt, and considering that's a relatively cheap starting point for higher end watches.

A few questions in my hunt for a good rep, I started with a few product reviews on this and RWI's forum, it appears that there are so many variants of any given watch. With the watches i'm on the hunt for, what things should i be on the look for, as i can see that a difference in the movement can change the price of a watch from $100 to $300.

TAG0299C - AquaRacer Calibre 5 Cer Bez SS/SS Black Asia 23J [TAG0299C] - $138.00 : Trusty Time Online Store, Your Trusty Watch Shop
TAG0300A - AquaRacer Calibre 5 Cer Bez SS/SS Black MKF Asia 2824 [TAG0300A] - $308.00 : Trusty Time Online Store, Your Trusty Watch Shop
0OMSP00055S Speedmaster Moonwatch SS/SS Black Venus 75 HW

i don't mind paying a little extra, if it makes for a very good rep, that'll last for some time.

    Any help or comments appreciated.

Hi Bro, welcome to the world of rep watches.

I’ll let someone else address your Tag question but I’m sorry to say there are no good reps of the Moonie.

The problem is the subdial position at the 3 and 9 o’clock. They are too far out. This causes the hour markers to be shortened, while the gen has full length hour markers (like on the other hours). Now you have an instant tell that your Moonie is a fake.

You can get properly shaped 3 and 9 hour markers on the rep quartz Moonie, but Omega does not make a quartz Moonie!

So, should you decide to get a rep Moonie you will either have to live with the short hour markers, or they will drive you crazy and you will end up selling it.

Now, most people outside this forum have no clue about this issue, so the likelihood of you getting called out is pretty low, unless you try to pass it off at an Omega AD. (Very bad idea!!!)

Best of luck as you decide which way to go.

Thank you for the reply ride2live, a lot of my colleagues/friends aren't really into their watches, so I suppose it would be down to me, on the omega front, can you recommend any of the good reps, in the speedmaster range. I'm basically after a good reliable rep, to dip my toes into rep watch game shall we say.

I've seen a review by toro's on the seamaster and planet ocean range, would you say these are good starting point in terms of rep looks and reliability.

Personally I'd love to dip into the Rolex sub field, but there appears to be so much going on for a first timer.

There are some very nice Seamaster and PO reps, but I would not rely on Toro’s reviews alone to guide you. I would suggest you go to the Omega section of RG and read through the various threads on those two watch models. Educate yourself before spending your hard earned funds before taking the plunge. Compare and contrast the the offerings from the various factories until you find the model you prefer to buy. Then contact Toro, and/or one of the other TDs to see if they are available. If not, you will have to wait until one comes up for sale in the M2M section, or you post a WANTED add.

Watches are a personal preference, different for everyone, so me or someone else telling you to buy this or that watch because it is the “best” usually does not work. But once you know which watch you like, and can live with the various issues that all reps have, then buying it and wearing it will bring you personal pleasure for a reasonable price.

Yes, I can see what you're saying. Toro's was more of a reference point, as I believe he has a sticky on the omega section. So I was just getting to grips with the lingo/terminology. I have been comparing a few PO and Seamasters on various TD's, it's just a bit daunting considering some of the prices can vary, but what look to be identical watches.
Fearful of taking the plunge on the cheaper option, only to be bitten, but I suppose that's the risk we all run now and again.

Do not allow yourself to be overwhelmed by the choices on the TDs website. Some pics are current while others are old and have not been removed. As soon as you know the watch that you want, and the name of the factory which produces them, message or email a TD and ask them if it’s available.

They can also guide you to the correct listing on their sites so you can see the watch in more details.
