Bespoke Suit
Hey Guys,
I am in the market for a new suit and I have heard about these operations where Tailors travel around the US measuring people for bespoke suits made in Honk Kong for very reasonable rates.
Has anyone had experience with this? is it legit? can anyone let me know how to find something like this in Northern / southern Cali?
thanks.

For a real bespoke suit you need at lat 3 fittings. If you go to Thailand I can give some really good tailors.

said, true bespoke is multiple measurements, the one-time measurement guys are more made-to-measure.

This has been around in the UK for ages. Although suits are more commonly used for work in the UK than in the usa where it's more casual so that may be why. There is a lot of competition in the UK now and the prices and quality is good.
It's normally made to measure as opposed to fully bespoke I.e. They start with a stock build and tailor it perfectly to you. Although they probably will offer fully bespoke, it's just playing on the advertising.
It's legit and good value as long as you use a reputable one. I'd reccomend using one who finishes in the U.S. As otherwise I have heard stories of badly fitting suits.
One word of warning though is that the people who measure you are sales people with training on measuring. They are not tailors. Their job is to upsell you.

Another point is they basically all use the same few companies in China/HKyou could just send off your own measurements. Then pay for a final finish at a local tailor. You can find them on Alibaba.
These chinese tailors all use UK, Italian imported fabric etc. You pick your options.

I was going to start a suit business in the UK so I know a fair bit. First of all what is your budget? Bespoke suit are not cheap if its actually bespoke. Some tailors will try to say they are bespoke when they are tailor made. Ask how many measurements and fitting they will cater for you. What is the base price (they would know the cheapest cloth they have + plus labour) - providing you are not asking out of their normal finishes, e.g details like hand sewn button holes for example. Are the jacket full/half canvas? What type of canvas they use? Is the canvas fused or hand stitched (hand sewn obviously more expensive and it falls better)? What is their house cut? What shoulders do they normally have (e.g. UK tend to use shoulder pads and Italian tend to use almost no shoulder pads).

Hey Guys,
Im new to this suit game so looks like i might not be asking the right questions. I am a big guy (6'5", 290lbs) so buying a good looking, fitting, quality suit off the rack is next to impossible for me. I am just looking for a cost effective way, say lass than $700, to get a great fitting quality suit.
thanks again.

iTailor all the way - get mine made there, and also get my shirts from there - quality is great. The only problem is you need to input your own measurements, but as long as someone helps you, you'll be fine! (they show videos on how to measure each aspect)

In you go to Khaosan Road in Thailand, they have guys every few steps that make tailored suits for cheap. But... you have to go to Thailand... which I personally can't recommend.

Bespoke suits for under $700.00 is going to be difficult. If you want a semi-custom suit got to the Men's Wearhouse and get a semi-custom Joseph Abboud. You get to pick your fabrics, your threads, your lining etc. And if they have their buy one get one special you'll get 2 suits for about $1100.00 or $650 apiece.
Otherwise try Hudson's in Irvine, CA. I can't attest to their price but it won't be $700.00 for a suit. Book A Fitting 949-478-4832 — Hudson Custom Suits

I’ve had Brooks Brothers suits, custom U.S. suit, and HK suits and the HK suits from L&K Tailor is the best bang for the buck. They sometimes do U.S. tours. I flew to HK for pleasure and happened to try out their place. I got 2 suits, sports jacket, 2 pair pants, and 6 shirts for the cost of 1 U.S. custom suit. Great value!
