Noob can't see pics/photos

Can somebody assist with a question that isn't addressed in the site's FAQ? Why is it that I can't see many pictures posted here? I see a tiny thumbnail with a question mark inside -- I figured a lot of these are old, outdated posts, but then again, many aren't. Photobucket is another example. Am I expected to get a subscription to see pics or am I just "missing" something here??

It would be best to put some threads to check as the reasons for the pictures not loading can differ. Especially the ones you say are recent but you can't see the pictures.
