If you use the instructions outlined above, you should have no problem cleaning the excess before it dries. Once it dries, I wont smudge. I am very satisfied and paint still holding strong inside the markers. I had to do many times, as I wanted to look perfect. Just take your time and use a very thin / small paint brush.
