Merkman - Here is my experience thus far: The keepall I have, the 55, goes in the overhead. It works fine as my carryon for several reasons. First, I also carry a small (for me, that is) purse when I fly for my tickets, passport, gum etc. Second, I don't overstuff (shocking!) the keepall because I'm hand-carrying it. Having to schlep a fully -loaded keepall from check in to gate at O'Hare would require far too many hours at the gym for this noodle-armed chick. Third, while it is just one large open space (it is just a duffle bag, after all), I use smaller bags/pouches (not to mention the ubiquitous quart-sized ziploc full of 3oz containers of lipgloss
) inside of it to keep things somewhat organized and relatively clutter-free.
I defer to our Lady Posh on all of the rest, above. Except I would like to add my voice to this sentiment: Please , for the love of all that is good and beautiful, get rid of the backpack... GET RID OF THE BACKPACK!
