Good! I can't believe I'm writing these either. Eventually it WILL slow down but everyone keeps giving me ideas so I keep writing. As long as the world is filled with inspiration, we will all move toward the future, out of the gutter and toward the stars!

    Thank Sfa437 for this one.

If I told you how much time it takes me to write these, you'd stop thanking me. Again, thank you guys and thanks to all the companies and individuals that give me access to them KNOWING I'm telling my replica friends all this info. Without this angel face, I'd have run out of articles about seven or so back.

Still looking frackin good but very proffesional. I would NEVER wear a freekin skin tight suit while discussing moving my client's 4.8 million dollar annuity.

Yes it does look good. But there are just some things you shouldnt do. Like wear half the crap they have in fashion shows on the street. Fashion shows are showing off looks and ideas. Not the actuall product.

Well thats my opinion anyways. I would feel like a little ***** in that suit. I like them fitted and outlining the body but not showing the curvature of my deal when I walk.
These suits, to me, are for the club. If you're going to Mansion or Space, I expect to see suits like this. I don't expect to see a suit like this at a car dealership, well, except for Lamborghini.

    Wow.

Detail, detail, and detail. Multiple sources, amazing clothes, and explained everything so I wasn't going... "what is THAT?" after every new phrase I wouldn't have understood.

Damn girl. If you ever decide to go to work for Elle or GQ, and they DON'T hire you, I'm starting my own mag. and making you my first and best writer. Talk about blowing people away!!!

And I haven't even read the 2nd article yet. Does the woman ever sleep?

You know what? It's funny you mention the amount of information in the post because Lara at ASTF said after I sent her and the co-CEO, Warren, the article that it was very interesting to read but packed with a lot of useful info that was easy to understand. She was amazed that I managed to basically boil down bespoke and what it was in detail without drowning in minutiae, of which there is plenty.

And I spell everything out just for the reason you talk about, Merk. Some people don't know what all the terms mean; I am not going assume everyone does. I didn't know some of this stuff and had to call in favors to get the info I needed to pass the knowledge on to you guys to use or throw away. This post was truly a group effort. I have to thank everyone who helped me understand, especially if their reading this which they may be doing.

Spend time in Thailand and the mention of the word 'suit' brings instant hatefull images of handshaking Indian sidewalk parasites offering to make one for you every ten paces.

I think how clothing is modelled is a sign as to its clientèle. one is the worst dressed chav I have ever seen advertising clothing, the other is a poorly dressed version of the Chanel boys. Just to wind it off the first guys tie looks like it has a Brazilian?

The fabrics look cheap, in fact I am going to drop by the studios at some point and see how they feel, maybe i can give some feedback on that here. I have a suspicion they will be shiny and horrid, like those Paul Smith/Hackett travel suits that died a death.

I still think that a suit is something that has to be tried on, when you get a suit tailored you go back in when it is half done to check it all fits, you cannot do that here, that should be of some concern.

Also it is important to point out that saville row suits are smart, the jacket on the suit I am wearing today pulls around your chest the more weight you put in the pockets, this is done with the interfacing and the famous saville row pattern, and what it means is the suit doesn't loose its structure, but more so that the structure in the first place is flattering.

If a suit looks cheap and poorly fitted on a model, then its a no sale for me, therefor I might be an idiot, but I will decline buying from these people.

    Posh-

Great write up, as if ya hadn't sold me already

I'm looking forward to my trip home to get few nicely fitted, moderately striped suits in a classic English cut for the price of one Sayville Row.

Can't beat that with a stick!

As usual, very thoughtful and informative. I'll post pics when I get my new threads

That's a good idea. They also send swatches of any fabric they have in stock out to anyone, so load up and see for yourself if the fabric is indeed "cheap." And if you're fabric collector (there's gotta be at least one, right?), they will make a suit from your own bolt. It stands to reason they are not going to keep any $5,000 per yard fabric on hand so if someone sold you a bolt of said five grand fabric for $500, send it to them and have it turned into something magnificent.

Savile Row, like many other luxury purveyors, is not immune to the rising costs of production that has struck every level of fashion, along with the need to remain competitive price and product wise. Many retailers on The Row have what they consider their "entry level bespoke" suits and some other higher grades of suits, which varies from brand to brand, outsourced and made in places like Shanghai, Hong Kong or even certain locales of India. Just because they measure you there doesn't mean your suit was wholly or even partly made there. That's why ASTF is an important company in Britian in regards to suits.

The Row wants people to think that their quality and their service is the ONLY place to go for purchasing a high quality suit. If they get you to believe that, like any company or brand selling luxury, they can survive. The Row has already gone through consolidation and changes that were unfathomable even just 20 years ago. Less than 50 people worldwide will purchase a $55,000 Kiton K50 suit, not nearly enough people to keep a company in the 21st century afloat for any length of time, no matter the unparallelled quality.

I think got most RGers, a reference to Vivienne Westwood's shirts would have been a little obtuse. I just wanted people to have an instant recall in their minds as to what the look is reminiscent of exactly.

That shirt is not made by Westwood; it is made by the same tailors of the suit.

Without your quick idea, I wouldn't have gone through the trouble. Now everybody can be helped thanks to your question. Oh, and ASTF will be looking out for you.

Posh, once again you impress with unsurpassed knowledge and passion for the fashion world. What you wrote really helped me delve my mind a little more into this "suit" world that sadly is not the world I live in.

Even though I'm 21, since high school, I've always had this tingling sensation whenever I donned a suit, which frankly is not very often.

Ill probably PM you later on to get advice on a few fashion questions, since the SoCal/mexican fashion scene basically sucks for lack of a better word

Thanks, Zilla. Like I said, I augmented what I knew and then sought the viewpoints of those who actually wear suits and make them for others. These people have a visceral understanding and love for the suit that really came through. When I'm at her boutique, putting on a glove-fitting Ellie Saab dress makes me feel regal and so I imagined that that feeling must occur when you guys wear a finely tailored suit. I had to find somenone who offered you guys that feeling, but far less shekels.

There's no reason to not be able to get a Savile Row quality garment if a near perfect Breitling Skylands is readily available. What ASTF is doing for the suit is what Guangzhou has been doing for watch. I applaud them for helping people get that $20,000 look AND feel for under $1,000.

There are some traveling tailors that do a decent job. WW Chan (Full canvas, bespoke, multiple fittings possible, cloths include loro, and zegna), and Raja Fashions (half canvas, made to measure).

That may be a better option for some members but how can they get in contact with these firms and where do these firms operate? And can cloth be confirmed as being from the textile mills they say they're from?

I'm much rather have my suit made in London- if for nothing else than to say it was custom made there.

I'm sitting here drooling over the prospect of sliding my arms into a perfectly proportioned jacket. Giving me shivers- I do love my suits!

Isn't life surreal with the internet? You're sitting out in ****tsville, Iraq, wearing a Breitling and talking to a bunch of watch nuts about getting your bespoke suits from London. Pretty trippy, wouldn't you say? Strange world we live in. Keep the peace and stay safe...

    Thank God for the internet!

I will say since I have been here, I've been educated on a lot of things. My sense of style has been elevated past the "Armani" phase, I know a LOT more about rep everything and I've had a blast doing it! Even my wife has become addicted to the site, although she doesn't yet have her own username.

She has taken Posh's "Luxe for Less" attitude to heart (although "less" is a matter of discussion at this point with her ) She's been busy on rep bag sites as well as amasing quite a collection of Tiffany and Chopard jewelry.

We're lucky to have Posh on the site- she's got an inside track to luxury goods outside of watches that is second to none and where to source good reps. Beyond that she'll compare the reps to gens and post the results. If it wasn't for her I'd be getting one suit on Sayville Row instead of 4 with the same cut, finish and attention to detail!

Personally I liked the French Riviera post the best. Had me cracking up and gave me a look inside a world I'll probably never see unless I wind up on some State Dept wonk's EP team and he/she wants to go raving

Posh, another well research and written article.
i now know more about suits than I ever thought I would need to. great write up, thanks - might even try to contact ASTF and see what they can do for me at those prices...
