Talking ~ Hello watch lovers and modders ~

    Hey Guys,

Just a quick hello. I've appreciated watches my whole life and I am slowly getting into the field of Rep Modding. (Into the subs btw)

I really wanted to start with a 16610 but the more I look into this, the more the vintage 1680 Red is starting to seem like a better pathway; mainly because of the MBW's OEM compatibility and gen parts availability. Finding a gen case seems a little problematic atm.

Oh and just as a side note, the power reserve PAM's kind of float my boat as well.

    Cheers

    Greystash

Greystach, pleasure to have you here man. The Red 1680 is very desirable. You have made a great choice with that one.

    Thanks Sylar,

Nice avatar and a great show actually; without the Sylar character the story wouldn't be nearly as good.

I noticed he never did quite get around to finishing his watch though.

Welcome aboard Greystash, it's great to have you here.

There is alot of modding experience here amongst the members, so just ask if you need anything.

Take a look at elprimorezen's modded 1665 'Great White' as an example.

    Thanks Niko,

Nice link. One of the things I admire are the guys that aren’t afraid to deliberately stress their nice new MBW, to impart a real sense of age. I remember reading a comment over at RWG about the guy that just got complements about his aged rep sub rather than the standard "is that real" type questions.

That is a decision we all have to make when we buy a vintage replica.

To some people, it is important to 'age' a replica watch according to it's era. Interestingly, some collectors who restore genuine vintage Rolexes do so to the extent that the watch looks new.

In the next few days, I will post some pics of a fully restored 1665 that looks brand new. You will be amazed at the condition it was in prior to restoration.

In some ways, it may be more important to do certain mods such as lug holes, crown guards and bezel/pearl rather than focussing on ageing the watch because of the fact that a good restoration can make a 30 year old submariner look like it was brought yesterday.

Good luck with your projects, and we look forward to seeing examples of your work.

On that I surely agree, esp the CG's.

    Look forward to the show.
