    Default Common Seller Guidlines?

This may have already been covered, but I would like to express my opinion on some issues with selling items. There should be some common guideline on things that we generally take for granted.

    1. If you list an item for sale, and you receive multiple PM's to purchase it, the PM's should be sorted by time. Therefore, common sense would tell you that the first PM is the first buyer on your list

    2. Have a little patience. If the buyer doesn't respond to your "here is my PP address" in five minutes, give him a little more time. I can't tell you as the seller what kind of time frame to set, but use common sense. If the "I'll take it" PM comes late in the evening, it is possible that the buyer is sleeping when you respond at 2:00 am when you come in from the bar. At least be courteous enough to PM him with a realistic time frame to respond, and let him know that you are moving on to your second buyer.

    3. The sale thread winner should never, and I repeat, never be based on who sends the money first or the fastest. This can lead to double and triple payments for the same item. Nothing makes me angrier than to get the dreaded "Sorry, so and so already paid for the item" PM after you also sent money.

    4. If the buyer, in good faith, sends you an "I'll take it PM", update your sale thread with "Sold Pending Payment". If that buyer falls through, go to your number two buyer and let him know what is going on.

I know most of you here already do this, and I thank you, but for some of the newer members this can be an issue. I am sure that some of the more experienced sellers out there have better suggestions. Please feel free to add or modify the above list.

    Thanks RG.....Rant now over .

While I agree with you, this isn't something in which the staff here can police. Sometimes people just don't have common sense, in which case, you are welcome to use the itrader notification system to not only tell people if you have a great experience, but also if you have a problem. Itrader is the absolute most underused system we have on this board, and this is precisely what it is for. If more people could be bothered, it would be like the ebay rating system. I know I personally have sold over 50 items here, and my iTrader certainly doesn't reflect that.

It is up to the seller who he wants to sell to.. the PM order is not that important. Some sellers rather sell in their own country first, or have some other criteria...

agreed, if I get 3 PMs, and the last one is from a VIP member I trust, guess who Im selling to? Regardless of what time the PMs came in.

While we're on the topic of sales guidelines, I also think it's important to bring up packaging suggestions. Remember, sellers are sending fairly fragile products potentially over thousands of miles. Here are a few 'musts':

    - watch is wrapped and secured using a plastic zip-loc bag and bubble wrap
    - watch is placed in a box

I've never had a problem with a watch I've received, but a few were wrapped/protected pretty lightly and put in a fairly flimsy bag. Packages get knocked around a lot when they are being put in a truck or shipped. It's important to pack a watch properly before sending it off.

Thanks. I just need to vent. I do understand that you can't police every aspect of selling an item.

While I have not sold any watches here yet, I have bought more than my iTrader number reflects. I was simply bringing up experiences that have happened to me and looking to vent my frustrations and look for other peoples point of view on the subject. I see that you have sold more than a couple, so your input would be great.

I agree with you. Its the seller's decision on who he sells to. I had sent a PM for an item and told them "I would take it". It was late, I went to bed and checked my PM's the next morning at a little after 7:00am. I had received the "here is my PP address". I sent the money with a follow up PM with my shipping info and was told that somebody already bought the item. While it is up to the seller on who he sells to, if you send them your PP address, at least give them a little time to respond (especially if its overnight). Again, I just needed to vent.
