Default “Who has the best submariner?”

Ok, Ok, just joking. I have been reading, reading, reading. This site saved me from the fabled $1,000.00 "Swiss 27 Jewel ETA" Sub, so a big THANK YOU. I have numerous very poor quality reps that I have collected from deployments over the past few years, so I guess I am a RepGeek. I can post pics if you want a good laugh. I love watches and I have been lurking on this site for sometime now and finally want to say hello. Hopefully I will eventually be able to contribute and not just take.

    Thanks

Thanks guys. This site is fascinating to me. My wife promised me a gen sub on our 10th anniversary, but I don't think she realized how much they cost nowadays. I plan on saving her the trouble and getting a SSD and save a few thousand dollars (that's alot of reps LOL).

    Welcome wkedgar!

Consider that I've been here for some time and I still keep asking (myself) the same question.

There is nothing wrong with a sub...in fact it's a classic...
I've recently come to a conclusion about all Rolex Reps
They are just to much in your face...
If you have a gen....then wear it with pride
If you have a rep then at least look like you could afford one
    in the first place.

That's the thing ...they have this wording on the dial
"ROLEX" even a school kid has heard of it!!!!

I don't know if you know where I'm going with this??

    Just a thought...

    Rob

Thats the point. Rolex is more than a brand it's one of the few words that translates and is understood in every major language on the planet.

Here is my reason for my love of Rolex watches:

Early in my military career guys would reward themselves with tudors or submariners when they graduated hard military schools (Q Course, Ranger, OTC...etc etc). I just never had the money (spent it all on partying and beer) to buy one for myself and settled for a nice Seiko Dive watch. After I got married my wife always heard me talk about subs and promised to buy me one on our 10th anniversary. (back then you could get a Gen Sub from the PX for $1,800.00 brand new)

Now a days, all the new guys are wearing G-shocks or the Suunto that we get issued on every deployment. Not that those watches don't serve their purpose, its just not as nostalgic as the old times when guys wore real timepieces that have a soul. Besides, the whole point of having a nice watch back then was in case you were stranded somewhere and need to get the hell out of there, you could at least trade that Gen Sub for transportation or a room at the local brothel.....Just kidding.

Anyway, I love all watches......I just have a special place in my heart for the Submariner. I am afraid after finding this site, I may have to make some room in there for a PAM111, PAM176 & PAM177. Hey, I have a big heart. Thanks for all your responses and welcomes. This is a great site.

I agree achernob. I probably will have to wait till retirement (6 years) for my Gen Sub, but for now I am waiting on a beautiful BKmariner to be delivered. That will do till then.
