Default Hi guys, looking for my first watch

I've been thinking about getting a watch for about a year now. I haven't worn a watch in maybe 20 years and wanted something classy for my wrist. I'm afraid to spend any significant funds on anything expensive if it turns out that I hate wearing a watch. I've also looked through tons of cheaper watches and can't find anything I like visually. So that brings me here.

I'm looking for something automatic with a metal band, one on the, for lack of a better term, solid looking side, not like a jubilee band. And for my first I'd like something with a clear case-back. I love the Omega Speedmasters but alas, no clear back other than the moon watch which is not automatic. Some of the Tag Carerras are nice but I've still got a lot of window shopping to do.

I've taken a good look through the preferred dealers as well. It's nice to not have to take my chances with whatever I find on google.

    Welcome to RepGeek.

    You said it well:

"It's nice to not have to take my chances with whatever I find on google."

That's why we are here and happy to help.

It will take sometime to read and figure out what you want to order. The wait is brutal, but a small bit of enjoyable research here will land you the watch you have always wanted at the price you seek.

    Cheers, Welcome and Enjoy.

Welcome to RepGeek - fun, friendly, flame free and informative.

I read the posts in the New Member Nook but didn't see anything specifically about what to look for when buying locally. I found some watches on CL that I'd like to see and have an appointment to check out. I'm told they are automatic but I don't know of anything beyond that.

Is there anything specific that I should look for? For the sale price, which is quite low, I'm not expecting anything out of this world but it will be a good way to see if I like the feel. I'm looking at the three on the right. I'd probably take all of them if it works out.

If you are going to find a watch on CL (presumably a gen), and don't know too much about the watch, it is highly recommended that you and the seller take it to an AD to check it out. If you are buying a rep from CL, then it's totally buyer beware. Do your homework here first before venturing out on CL and buying reps from there. Alot of Canal St. crap can look pretty damn good to an untrained eye.

Oh no, these are definitely not gen but the price is great. Even if they last me three months I'll have gotten my money's worth out of them.

Why would you waste your valuable time and resources on the interwebs?

You have an entire listing of fully vetted and recommended by the RepGeek Nation of Dealers here:

    http://www.repgeek.com/forumdisplay.php?f=22

And the RepGeek Members Sales Section(s) are on fire - watches flyin outta here.

    Just a thought.

Sorry, I suppose I was a bit vague there. That was what I was planning. I meant here vs. face to face.
