    Default Hey All!!

Been around watches for years but Im just starting to discover the wonderful world of reps. I became interested after doing some laser-etching on a friends Rolex SD ( I design and build laser marking systems for various companies- also various types of lasers for medical application).
Never know- maybe Ill be useful to someone, but my wife might beg to differ!! Lol

    Thanks!
I plan on posting some tut's about turning your old plotter into an excellent cnc diode pumped engraver- I thought it might be helpful to some of the modders who have a high flow of customers. For the average guy though- Im not sure how good it would be because of the costs associated, but ya never know! You could build a decent engraver for under $500 if you source your materials right.

    Wheels already a turning.

How about a sterling silver dial etched as a non branded PAM with a black matte case?

Or check out the dials on the Limes brand (German). Beautiful stuff.

Personalized cases, strap buckles. What about engraved rotors?

You etch a case and Rex450 sand blasts a finish?

Outside the box he thinks. Yes. Start a thread. You have a knowledge of what you can do. Let the group toss around ideas as to what we want.

There are endless possibilities- these are extremely precise machines. One must keep in mind, however, that I can produce 50 of a particular item for about the same cost as one (programming, setup, ect...) so it can be a costly prcedure to have one item done as opposed to a group effort whereby the cost is offset. Im speaking strictly in reference to deep engravings. Etching is a less expensive procedure because of the lower power requuirements and its usually a matter of selecting your fonts, lining it all up and let it go- doing specialized one item projects wouldn't be so bad.

The reason its so expensive is because of the diodes, they have a certain life span and then they just quit. A diode pumped laser putting out 50W of power dies in about 10,000 hours- and they aren't cheap to replace.

What about a HBB engraved rotor with special fonts.

I recently viewed a project attempted over on the dark side that was a decent effort, I know I could do a much better job of it with a laser- in fact I could guarantee that it would perfectly replicate factory markings on anything really. Even the crystals on the Rolex's could be perfectly replicated.
I know the HBB has been an issue because of the rotor engraving, but I know I would have no trouble accomplishing exactly what the factory has done as long as I knew the font and size, depth would be good too but I doubt that anyone here has a real one that we could disect for specs- so for that you would have to guess a bit but no doubt you'd be fairly close.

How about those factory hologram stickers? I can show you how to easily replicate them as well

Sand blast?? I can get some pretty fine results etching the entire thing, once the maching has been programmed I only have to place whatever is being engraved into the cutting table and let it go.

Now Im off to look at the IWC's and the Vintage Rolex's- I think Im in love!! Oh, and the Breitlings are amazing- Im itchnin for a Navitimer!

Welcome Zane! Give me a PM, I could use a Laser marking machine at work if the prices have come down. Otherwise I use the good fashioned hot stamper! (Plastics)

Well then you are going to love my upcoming tutorials- in the end you'll be able to build yourself the unit and for your needs- you could probably keep it under $2000, and it should be able to handle all of your "soft" material marking needs.
I began working on my first last night so I should have it up early next week.

Well now- etching is a much cheaper process (takes less power and doesn't shorten the life of the unit as much) and of course- any design is able to be applied.

Feel free to pm me if you want to know more

I have decided though that I will only offer my services through one board and no other- this one. I wasn't impressed with something that was said on the other board (by one member- it wasn't really insulting but he approached me for engraving work and then after discussions he threw in a sales pitch, I was a little put off by it). So- they will have to find me here for that.

Here are a few examples of what is possible

Micro fine cuts, and you can see the ultra small etching on the bottom of the pre-housed diode jackets

    (Yes- I made both)

Check out the tutorial I have just posted on building your own 3 axis desktop CNC
