Default If it's your "grail" then why is it for sale?

I've seen people selling their grail watches, and it doesn't appear as if they are liquidating their collection.

If you need the money, wouldn't you hold onto the "grail?" Or are you just overselling it?

it's just an amateur sales technique.

What they really mean is, "Damn my grail sucks compared to that new H Factory version. I'm going to upgrade!"

It is a much better technique to just say, "I'm going gen, grails for sale"

    I think its more like
"I just realized I have spent $1000 building up a rep, and the gen is only $2000, and I still obsess over the flaws. It spent 6 months in transit or at modders, or in parts on my desk, and I havn't worn it enough to figure out if i like it yet. I think I have a problem, so I'll try to get back every dirty nickle off some poor schlub. Oo.. but *next* time I'll make it better.. yes.. and it will be my precious... my preciousssss..."

I seriously doubt anyone has put $1k into a rep and doesnt have some gen parts in that beast that would be displaced by a new 'super rep'. No super rep is that good.

though, when you put your money into cost ineffective mods, I'm sure some have fallen into that group as well. I still laugh at some of the 'super modded' watch costs on here when they dont include gen parts, or have like 'gen stem tube!!' and other mindless things. Lumed and 'serviced' and has a few pieces from other reps, and throw on a few members custom creations (CGs, crowns, crystals, datewheels), and somehow think its now a $1000 watch.. So crazy.

Or the types that think because they paid a modder for their 'dream' creation to their exact specs that the resulting watch is worth what they paid. NO. You paid for the *service* of customization, not the value associated with it. If I'm going to drop that kind of money on a custom vintage jobby, I'm going to get it down HOW I want it, and I'm going to pay for the service.. the resulting watch is, at best, worth half that, you should know that going in.. You don't see the custom watch guys just cranking out projects for sale.. they wait til they have a client. Someone to consign a dream. Or, they're off on their own quest for improvement/builds that they decided they could do better on the next.. and flip the watch hoping someone will fancy it.

but its custom. I'm not badmouthing that service, its amazing and well worth the money, but unless your dream is the same as someone elses, you're far better off getting it done right to *your* dream. Obviously the results of their custom project weren't up to their expectations, and you dont want someone else's cast off, hairbrained, vision.

Its like buying a car with a crazy airbrushed mural on the side that cost the guy $10k. Doesn't add anything to the value. Still a el camino at the end of the day, only people will look at you funny.
