My Battle with the big C

Hi Fellow Geeks so glad to be back after nearly 2 years please excuse grammer ... Back in 2010 i posted i will do a follow up so here i go.
back in 2010 i had a small red mark on my left cheek it statred about this time in June i did not take any notice of it it didnt hurt i put it down to nasal passages are blocked and reading on the internet as you do it told me to go to my Dentist so off i went only to be given a Months supplyof anti-biotics....Month passed and no change the lump had gone bigger in this time and now my eye was getting red,..So this is getting worrying i was in work at 530am and asked my Boss if i could leave his reply no sorry were understaffed this was on a friday.... i said bollox im off bye bye that was it caught the bus and ended in the Main dental hospital in Birmingham....
i said

I Sat fearing nothing and then after nearly 2 hours i get called in main dentist came up had a look told me that i need urgent x-rays so off i went
another 2 later got called in..... They told this looks pretty seriouse and please could i make it down to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital ....By this time alarm bells started ringing at this moment i was afraid i told them id go Monday they insisted friday but no friday was a day to socialise.



Monday comes i get a call that a oncologist wants to speak to me i have no clue what a oncolgist is lol so i said ok got there 9.30
and i get called in my wifes waiting outside he asks me did i come with anybody ? i said yep he says i would advice you to call her in.
He sits us down and says there is no easyway to tell you but you have Cancer he showed me the xray and told me that i will need a biopsy done and a CT Scan ,,, To be honest nothing hit home me and my wife walked outwithout speaking to each other the whole 30 min journey home
My wife told my kids not kids now lol 24 and 21 and they burst into tears even then i had no feelings.


Tuesday comes called into theartre have biopsy done come back in few days and we can do CT scan so i return have CT scan done and leave..
Wife gets a phone call saying oncologist has the results i jump in car park up..My name gets called enter room with my wife seats m down
the result show you have T4 Progressive Cancer and the bad news you will have to lose your left eye to stop cancer spreading north he asked any questions thats when it hit me and i actully cried like a baby...To speed up the story they said they will need to operate urgently and gave me the date 28/10/2010.

This is much harder than i actully thought to write up about and im determined to finish it... It stupid really but my minds elsewhere at times.

Hi Danny, Im understand what you and you're family are going thru. Like you my father became very sick withen the last year for no reason, in october we recieved the news that he had stage 4 cancer. It was very painful for him as normal everyday tasks were no match and hard for him to complete, unfortunately in early december he had passed away and to this day it all seems like a nightmare.

I hope and pray that godspeed you a full recovery so you may enjoy many more years with you're family. This illness is never somthing that is easy to deal with so please be stong willed and determined to keep you're life in check and to be thankfull everyday when you wake up.

I wish you a speedy recovery my friend.

Hi Thank you all for your kind words i really appreciate it....Ill start back with what happened next please excuse all grammer, ok its the 27/08/2010 ive woken up knowing my life would not be the same from today i go into my sons room and gave him a hug then to my daughters room who was sitting in bed listening to music she got up and said Dad Be Strong you will be ok with that a nice big HUG i make way downstairs and there behold my faithful little staffy jumping up to greet me and my wife cooking breakfast i gae her a kiss and washed up and then took my dog out for a walk.........

I Lit my 1st Cigarette of the day looking at everything trying not to miss a thing knowing ill never see again out my left eye...
took for ever to walk my dog my normal run is a hour but today 2 hours .....I get home my familys all sad only daughter can raise a smile i did not even want to eat but sake of family i eat.friends relatives came to see me and then it was TIME never forget that feeling leaving the home my daughter who wasthe strongest just brokedown i held her andshe ran in.......4.00PM and waving bye we turned round the block and finally broke down with Mrs trying to comfort me...

Got to hospital and there after couple Hours Dr came in and basically described the procedure they made it sound like nothing lol so tmw was the big day
Surgery planned at 10am all the family around again i have to wait to sign forms ....930 THE WHOLE TEAM COME to explain again now this time it hit home
Oncologist explained that this is how they will perform surgery will take 23hours 1st a incicionwill be made from top of nose bridge along th side of nose to centre of lip that skin will be pulled left to expose eye area and then the cheek thn they would have to kill the eye with a 11inch rod now im ****ting myself

Then they carried on saying all my teeth will have to be removed but implants will be put instead that knocked me for 6 but that wasnt it they also told me my bone from my left shoulder will be removed to reconstruct my face after...... My daughter goesoutand faints me as a fool try to get outof bed to get to her but im full o tubes......Oncologist gives the order and off we go my mind is blank at this time ....im in the anethestic dept getting cheerd up by Nurses anethestic administered and bye bye world
