Default Package seems to be lost at the UK Royal Mail Delivery Office

    Dear fellow geeks,
I want to receive your advice on this :

    Backstory :
I have sent (sold my old watch) a watch to a newbie around 10th of May in RWI (member since few months, no post, no thread) to the UK, however, he still didnt get it. I sent to the UK before without any problem. I sent to another watch of mine to the US (after I sent to him) and only after 10 days he got it, before this guy in the UK.

Based on the tracking it is not in the customs or anything. But member I had sold it asked the post office and told me the the post office had said to him `they were unable to find it.`

Strange thing is this newbie didnt seemed to be as excited as I am and he only started to care a little after I track the package, told him it was near at a post office close to him and after I asked him to pursue it. He doesnt communicate very well, as a sender I have sent three times more messages to him than him to me. I have sent a message telling him that I have lost my steam, he should chase it but I am here to help anyway I can.

Anyways, when he replied, he says he was on holiday, he asks if that all I was doing (chasing `his` package`) and it was my job to pursue it as a sender, he cant throw that money away...

I told him, normally my end of the bargain ended by the time I post it and provide him the tracking number (clearly stated in my ad and also reminded to him via PM) but I was being a nice guy and since this is not a commercial thing I want him to have the watch, still prepared to help him out anyway I can but now he is strangely quite. I see that he logs on to the forum.

I am suspecting, he might be contacting pay pal (he paid it as a gift with a note saying thanks ...his name...)
I have no funds on my pp account just my bank details, cell phone is attached to it.
He might contact forum mods which I couldnt care less, since I abide by the rules, and I am still ready to make up for `if any` my mistakes.

I mean I dont want him to throw his money away, again, it is not a commercial gain (on the contrary it is a loss) for me, I sincerely want him to have it thus I am/was pursuing on his behalf as a responsible member.

Very weird situation and attitude, since based on the tracking it is sitting in a post office at a closing distance to his address.
But as he told me only once that they are unable to locate the package (lost). He doesnt pursue it, he doesnt reply me, he doesnt ask for his money back etc

I asked the customer service of the Royal Mail by giving the tracking info (out of curiosity and again being responsible) and they replied me I need to provide full name and address of the sender and recipient as well as my postal address. I had 10 days to do so. (3 days past already)
This is also strange, I have a tracking why they need all these details ?

I think after the customs, someone at the Royal mail pocketed the item so it went missing.

    Dilemma :
Now I am trying to decide what to do. Should I provide my details to the Royal mail or not ? I am hesitant since this is an item you know what kind.
I am also hesitant due to the this new member being strangely quite ?

Any idea from your past experiences.

What do you guys think ?
    Cheers

I have recently experienced similar, and after filing a claim, two months later, the package turned up, so maybe your package will eventually arrive, or it has arrived, and the seller isn't being honest, and tracking not being updated.

    Thanks for the input mate.

Actually, I am the "seller" at this transaction. I have every document one can have to prove that I sent the package. (Tracking no, photos with label and package on the scale - showing its weight)

So even though it is a counterfeit product,
do you think I should still file a claim by giving my full details (name surname postal address) ?

Its worth it, yes, as said, it could already be with a dishonest buyer, or stuck somewhere in the postal system.

i've had similar experience recently sending to the UK where the tracking go as far as saying it's at delivery office but never updates to being delivered.

Is it stuck at Heathrow DC? I had one come recently from Greece, and it took 2 weeks to get through Heathrow DC to me. Have heard it can take up to 90 days on some forum posts online.

It happened to me lately. I was expecting 2 pairs of shoes from AE.Package came all the way from a Chinese factory up to the final mail service office that was supposed to deliver it to my place. Then it got lost. Supposedly. Someone there robbed it. It was scanned there but never reached my door. Tracking never updated.

OP I really hope the buyer is not trying to pull a stupid move on you. It's bad luck for him and he needs to understand that it is not your fault.

He should wait it case it tuns up somehow or realize this is part of the risks accepted by the buyer when buying a rep M2M

Hello guys thanks to you all for sharing your experiences and views.

Buyer (new member) said he learned his lesson from the hard way.
Guys I dont want him (especially a new member) to feel this way, thus I want to do my best but of course, without risking myself.
(Similar things happened to me when I bought a watch from a fellow geek here last year, the package turned up after a month)

Based on the tracking info, (checked both Australia Post and Royal Mail) the item landed UK Langley.
Royal Mail shows that it is in the delivery office near to the member's house, whom I sold it to.

I think I can claim an investigation free of charge.

In here, as I have already mentioned, I am very hesitant since this is a counterfeit product. Do you guys think making a claim would be risky because of that ?
Or should I do this claim here in Australia via Australia Post ?

Please see tracking info from both postal services of Australia and the UK.

So what happened in the end ?
Did it got delivered to you ?
Your tracking got further than mine, I was the seller and sent to UK. I think one in march and one in april, tracking never got further than arrived in UK, but the buyers received the items.

IMO your buyer has received the item, maybe you should try calling royal mail and check. If you use skype or viber etc shouldn't be too expensive, just to give yourself a piece of mind. Bit too convenient for it to just get lost right after getting to the delivery office where they deliver to the buyer...

What service did you send by? EMS or normal registered airmail?

I used to live in the UK, and the online tracking for basic registered mail even within UK is a joke. Yes it's meant to require a signature on delivery but its not electronically tracked (at least not when I was there) one the postman even left a registered mail item just on my doorstep. The online tracking almost never updated to show delivered for basic registered mail.
When i was selling on ebay in UK I started only using the more expensive special delivery service (within uk) which was next day guaranteed and electronically tracked each step, since tracking for recorded mail (what royal mail calls basic mail which needs signature) was such a joke.

I used the tracking number for both Australia Post and for Royal Mail (UK) postal services.

As you can see, Australia Post shows only that the package landed it the UK.
Royal Mail shows that it is in the delivery office.

I mean, if the buyer was not being honest, I think I would see at least the notification that the package is delivered. Didn't I ?

So the question remains, based on past experiences, would it be a safe bet to go after the package with providing all detailed (Sender's name surname, Recipient name surname, my postal address) information to the Royal Mail Postal Services ?

    - - - Updated - - -

I am calling the royal mail but nobody picks up.
Buyer asks me to go after the package, would he do this if he was lying ? Just asking, I am not sure.

As the sender, you are the one who can make the claim.

We can't say for sure that the package has not been delivered because sometimes it gets delivered and the tracking never gets updated accordingly. On most occasions it is supposed to be updated though.

I would not be too worried about what's in the box. If they start an investigation, the only purpose will be to find the package, not to know what's inside.

You have done your part, Shipped with tracking so you can proove it was sent and in my opinion delivered....It's not up to you to now jump through hoops for the buyer.

You are right but If there was one thing I can do, I wanted to do it, I hope I won't regret it.

I gave my and recepient's details to Royal Mail to see where the package is, or if somebody is lying

I will write down about the outcome.
