Tight clothes actually would help a guy in a bar fight, right. The clothes and thus the person would be difficult to grab. That makes sense to me. The jeans should be more form following, whether straight leg or tapered leg.

But men's jeans shouldn't usually be tight unless you are punk rocker or emo sh*thead. The tightness of the pants helps them get in touch with their angst.

I happend to be wearing tight jeans in a fight once, and behold, my opponent tried to grab my boys but could not do so... I responded with thumb to the eye.... seemed a fitting response... I won.
