Someone recently bemoaned the fact that Americans (I can attest that this applies to many people all over the world) seem to be perpetually dressed for yard work!! Loved your post referencing Steve McQueen. Spot on!

There's a lot of apathy in the world at large, and it starts at home, I think. If you don't care what you look like when you leave your house, you probably don't care about much else either. That's how I view it; it's something that pervades one's whole life.
In my mom's field, it's also usually the first sign of some kind of mental illness.
