Default What about a french section ?

    Hi,

I've seen there was already a spanish and an italian section, and i'd like to know if some of my "my fellow compatriots" would agree to give life to a french section.

I don't know if there is enough french people here to make it possible and fun, but i'm sure everyone will agree that repgeek ( the best site in the world ) deserves to be discussed "dans la langue de Molière".

Plus, our French president Nicolas Sarkozy is well known to be a huge fan of the Rolex Daytona

Well, even if I would be happy to discuss in french here, I don't really know how many members actually come from France...

Maybe that it could help some members having trouble to understand correctly english, and who hesitate to post some questions thinking they won't be understood.

Then, we are only guests here, and if the founders accept a new section, it would require to have a team of french modos to have the section respect the rules of RG... Anyone ready to commit to those responsabilities ?

I really do not see the use of all those different language categories. When the main language of this forum is dutch for example I can imagine a English or Spanish subforum. But by my idea this forum is native English and English is the most naturalised language in the world.

Also when I do a search on a keyword I can't read the subfora's in other languages. That is rather annoying. My 2ct.

    You're right.
It may be more complicated than i thought.

It was just about creating a french community and celebrate it.

    I'm from 92 too

RG is already a fantastic community !! Not having a french section does not prevent us from PM'ing in french between french members, and I always answer to french fellows who need some help.

I'm just fearing that a separated french section would get away some of the spirit which makes RG one of the best forum I've ever been.

[EDIT : many french RG fellows are from Paris area. We might organize some RG dinners, like it's done in the watch section of Hardware.fr (some may know this one)]

    Hi Xander,

I understand your point, but the purpose of my proposition was about solidarity, in order to help French people to understand and to be understood, when they can't in english.

The question is now about the general interest, wich has to be determinated by the owners of the site.

If such a section brings more difficulties than facilities, well, it doesn't have to be created.
But if it can be helpfull to people, i think it deserves, at least, to be discussed

    Best regards.

    NO WAY
I wouldn't like to see LVMH and others - most being close friends to president Sarkozy - taking to much interest into this kink of place.

I don't thing we need another language section personally, but I'll run it by the superiors and see what they think. I am in favor of doing away with the current lang sections since they do not get used very much at all.

Sorry but as the italian mod i feel the need to drop my 2 cents......Have you looked at my section and the amount and quality of the threads?
Even tough i undestand the somewhat limited use/access that the italian section has for the general community , i believe is a venue for qualified members to express themselves and talk about subjects that can be important and interesting for everyone.
For all the members that don't understand the language, i'm willing to help with translations and such, as i did already, just ask for it or shoot me a pm.
I believe the "global community" approach can only enrich this already fantastic site!
We are not talking about losing an identity, that for this forum will always be "english", we are expanding that identity into something somewhat more...international!

    Hi

i can see that some members think it would be a good thing to create a french section, some others don't, and all have given good reasons to illustrate their opinions.

I agree with Nembo on the fact that it could enrich this wonderfull site, but i'd also like to remind the community that my intentions weren't so ambitious. LOL

As i've already said, the purpose of my SUGGESTION, cause it only was a suggestion, was to determinate if such a section will be helpful or useless for the community.

At this point of the reflection, we can see that all the arguments are admissible, and this is why i think we should consider the proportion of people IN NEED of a french section on the forum, and make the balance with the bad sides it might entail for the other members.

For the moment, only 2 french members and one canadian member have given their opinions.

With me, it only makes ... 4 members.

Thus, i don't think we can consider that such a section will be usefull.

In conclusion, the purpose of this thread wasn't to give the " best super supreme" answer (see the reference ?), it was just meant to be understood as a good question.

    Best regards

If you didn't understand english, you wouldn't have found this forum in the first place,so you must understand it,good enough.

    Absolutely,
but as i said it before, it was a question asked in order to determinate if a french section would be helpful to the french community of the site, not for me.

And considering the number of french members on this thread, i'm the first one to say that it doesn't have to be created.

Dave, every french member here can read and write in english and even speak it! I think it's more about getting a forum for our french culture or heritage, were we could use our expression and jokes and etc...

But I guess there is not enough good reason to have it! So I'm ok with the way it is right now.

    Right
And that's why the purpose of my post was to help the people who DON'T understand the english threads, or don't understand the technical part ,etc

As you would like to understand some italian threads, i was thinking that some french spoken members ( France, Swiss, Belgium, Quebec; etc) would like to live their passion in a more comfortable way.

Nembo....Good enough, sometimes there are threads that are 3+ pages long and i wonder what you guys are talking about....must be good, but have no idea as they are not in english, and you could have had the same thread in english,no reason not to....thats my only point...

I always click 'new posts' so i see all the Ital. threads,i don't actually browse each subforum where i could avoid the Ital. forum if i wanted to....
