usually these type of sellers have a misconceived sense of self importance. and if i dont get the right kind of vibe i wont mess with the deal no matter how good it is. i would rather buy a watch that is ok, from someone i like than to buy a watch that is better from someone i dont like. just like with the new watches. PICK YOUR DEALER THEN, PICK YOUR WATCH!

In the midst of all the BUYER conditions most sellers place on their inquirers, how about a set of SELLER ground rules which I have found helpful when selling:

    1. photograph everything and send the pics to the buyer. No confusion about what went into the package and how it was packed...
    2. send the buyer a pic of the shipping docs. That way, they know how it was sent, what the cost of the shipping actually was, what carrier to expect a knock on the door from, and any reference numbers provided by the shippers.
    3. Be realistic. That "TZ rating of 97%" thing gets me every time. The watch either has wear marks which are obvious and must be disclosed, or the wear marks are so small that no-one without a loupe could notice - and if there are marks or scratches, your pics should then form a part of the description.

Also - a good buyer will tell you when they receive what you have sent. You can then be sure about the same approximate delivery time (and you can mention it with some confidence) for getting the next watch you sell to a buyer from the same area. AND - a good buyer will have no problem sending a short note to the site here to say that the deal was a good one and done in accordance with the promises made, when the goods are delivered. I do use this facility on this site and have found it very useful.
It is all a matter of common courtesy and professionalism, IMHO.
Out of interest - if I see the words "CONUS only" I dont bother contacting the seller to ask if what they said is what they meant. Harsh, but thats the way it is. But it never ceases to amaze me that sellers often miss out on deals because they are not prepared to go to a Post Office and fill out a form (with the notable exception of sellers who ship without insurance, because I know things sometimes go astray - but who in their right mind would ship without insurance and/or a reliable tracking number anyway??? - given that it is at the buyers cost, if the deal is structured properly, or the risk of loss falls on the buyer if the seller has done everything right).
    JMHO.
    Cheers - IMAC

I've been trying to ship a watch with insurance to Europe from the US, and it isn't as easy as one might imagine. If one chooses to ship with USPS, then it's not possible to add additional insurance to a registered airmail package, and watches are not allowed to be shipped with express mail, which leaves Priority Mail International, but insurance can only be added if one doesn't use the small flat rate box.

So, to ship a 9 oz box containing a $200 watch with insurance costs $40, compared to $10 by airmail without insurance, or $17 by priority mail small flat rate box.

It's not that I'm unwilling to ship internationally, it's just that most international buyers have no idea how much it costs to ship with insurance, and are likely to balk at the price of shipping, and otherwise try to negotiate more aggressively on the price. I also require payment by Paypal gift for international shipments, since the tracking by the postal service isn't enough to satisfy Paypal for the purpose of seller protection. And, when I let them know that I'm not responsible for customs fees or seizure, or loss (unless insured), they tend to disappear anyway, so it's really much more effort than it's worth.

Yes, I know all these conditions make me sound like a jerk, and honestly it's usually much easier to just restrict sales to within the CONUS. The lack of accountability and tracking in international post, the potential for customs issues, and the nature of Paypal rules is such that I much rather leave the watch unsold than risk having a Paypal dispute on my hands, and being out the watch as well.

And here I am trying to sell my Yuki 1016 dial. Not even one offer. The longer it remains unsold, the more I want to kill that mutherfµçker Yuki.

In addition, you can't buy tracking for shipments abroad via USPS as far as I'm aware.

You can track using Express Mail, if I'm not mistaken, but you're not supposed to ship a watch using Express Mail, it's on their list of restricted items. And without online tracking, you automatically loose if the buyer files a Paypal dispute.

Late last year, I sold a Seiko on a replica forum to a guy in Germany, and it ended up getting held at customs but the crappy tracking only stated that it left the US. I ended up receiving PMs asking about the other recent international transactions I made because he suspected that I scammed him. He finally found the customs notice, but by the time he got around to going to customs, it had been sent back.

Then, it took another two months for the watch to make its way back to me, by which time he changed him mind, and wanted a refund. It had taken so long that I couldn't refund his original Paypal payment, and I had to send him a new Paypal payment. So, he ended up paying for my Paypal fees and postage, and was out about $30, but for about 3 months of aggravation, first wondering if the watch was lost getting to Germany, and then worrying that the watch was lost being returned to me, I ended up with absolutely nothing from that transaction.

If it had been a CONUS transaction, it would have been delivered in 2 days, the buyer would have been happy, and not had months to change his mind on the purchase.

Yup, makes them sound like Aholes, so I just avoid them. My first purchase was through a really nice member that I met on the chat, he was great and friendly and to a certain point I like talking to him once in a while about watches. Not only I got a great deal but now we are forum friends. Cheers!

I have to say that as a seller, seeing more than one "bro" in what needs to be a "sold, give me your pay_pal" message, gives me the urge to start adding conditions and disclaimers to my listings.

Ok lads, enough of the midget hookers. I'm actually an achondroplasiaphobe.

For a long time I shipped (and received from) almost anywhere without any problems. I used to think the CONUS only guys were total wankers. Then I had a movement go missing from a completely trustworthy seller. Then an incoming package or 2 got flagged by customs. Now all (my) packages from outside EU get flagged apparently. So, I am now officially an EU only wanker. I put it in a box, walk 5 min to the post, and for a few € it's on its way. No customs declarations, no paperwork, no worries and in less than a week it's on some happy German's/Swed's/Scot's wrist.
