Default My collection after 2 months

OK, so I’m not brand spanking new, and by my standards if I’ve been doing something for 2 months, I’m a veteran; but going by the look of the more avid posters, I think I still qualify as a newbie.

I thought I would share with you all the progress I have made in the few short months I’ve been a watchaholic.

Starring in these pics you will see my long-suffering mouse, who has endured countless hours of scrolling through repgeek.com, and without whom, I would probably have enough money for a small yacht.

    Enjoy.

My latest acquisition, a PAM111 from prestige watch co.

Unbeknownst to me at the time; my first rep, a Tissot PRC200 from those trusty Chinese sellers on eBay. Believe it or not, this is still one of my best quality reps.

A Graham Oversize Chronograph from Toro Bravo before he went incognito. He was great to deal with.

An Emporio Armani again from our Chinese eBay friends. I didn’t know if it was a rep, and didn’t care; I just wanted a square dress-watch.

A Rolex “Kermit” from Robert at prestige. Already lost the dot of lume that should sit at 12 oclock on the bezel. I guess you expect that for $50.

    GMT-MASTER II, also from Robert

A gen “Planet Orient”. They’re not really big on this forum, but I love it.

Two Nixon Rotologs. I ALWAYS get comments when I wear these. People say “Why are you wearing two watches?”
Just kidding. But I do get comments about how unique they are.

These two I’ve had for years. They’re old surf-watch beaters. I thought I would put them in as I’ve put them through hell and they’ve never skipped a beat. I have a lot of love for these two.

This is not a rep – it’s a $9 automatic from eBay. I bought it to pull apart and put back together again as an exercise. I thought I would wait for it to stop working first. I’m still waiting.

Finally I have the dodgy factory strap from my PAM111 and a 24mm sub-buckle that I bought for the custom strap you see sitting on the PAM.

I had to laugh looking at your post cause the Tissot PRC200 has got to be the most accurate rep there is by now.

Thanks guys. I probably will fill the box (another 8 spaces), but after that I think my focus will shift from the watches to the straps.

Surely there is a point where one can have too many watches?

I'm going to have a lot of fun finding that point.

    nice Tissot PRC200.

I've had my eye on one of these for a while. Was going to go for a gen, but now that you say the rep from Ebay is quite good, might pick one of those up, as they are very reasonably priced!

What you don't realize is that the watches you have now... you will start to look at them and realize they don't cut it. So you will buy more. Then you will start spending, probably what you spent on all those watches, on one nice grail watch. Then you will have 2 grail watches. Eventually you will have many expensive reps, tons of straps and a person you can call because they were assigned to you as a support mechanism from your 12-step program.

Best of luck - kiss your money goodbye!

BTW - www.watchmaterial.com. search "dot" and you will have the option of getting a great quality pearl... 10 USD

And it starts here... before long you will be spending $700 per watch. It's only uphill from here. Or downhill as far as your bank account goes.

Wow that is a lot of watches. I am way to cheap to match your achievement. With that said, I do plan on purchasing a Pam 005.

Head over the watchuseek Tissot forum, and you'll see the angst the PRC 200 replicas have caused. I purchased one on taobao.com, for about $70, and they are wonderfully done.

The documented differences appear to be the usual defects like the lume intensity, and some minuscule fit and finish issues like a bit of extra paint on the holes where the chronograph hands are attached. I would also probably not push my luck with the water resistance.

I haven't gotten around to removing the caseback to verify the movement used, but I have heard rumors that it uses the same ETA quartz chronograph movement as the genuine article. This seems plausible, since I believe that is the only available movement with the 1/10th second chronograph functionality, and the subdial layout, that I'm aware of. The same movement seems to show up in a number of Victorinox and Swiss Watch International quartz chronographs.

I believe that part of the reason why the Tissot PRC 200 has been replicated to such a high quality is that it is possible to source ETA quartz chronograph movements inexpensively, which do not come in different levels of fit and finish or embellishments. Consequently, a high quality replica could be sold as the genuine article on eBay in exceptionally large quantities.

Given the low MSRP of the genuine watch, most people would not believe that such a high-quality replica exists. But of course, that's predicated on the assumption that the replica is being sold knowingly as a replica, as opposed to a discounted "genuine" watch. In the latter scenario, the profit margins are extraordinary, far exceeding the super replicas which we crave for, which are presumably sold in smaller quantities to replica geeks like us.
