    Default Price gouging?

People here are admittedly profiting off scarce watches like WM9's. Aren't there rules against this? What about selling for the good of the rep community? I sold a wm9 v2 sub for 485 a few months ago to see one go for 700 on another board today.

And todyay, in the VIP section, a seller makes 165 in profit?

What a joke. If I knew this was the way it was, I wouldnt have had to sell some of my watches.

Unfortunately this happens way too much.
I have always sold my watches for what I had in them.

I always sell them for less than I have in them, I always sell them with a loss But what do they say, my loss is your gain

Market sets the price I suppose. I'm not a fan of it but that's because I'm kicking myself for not buying one when they were available. If the wm9 versions were still available then a used one would just be a nice used watch. As it stands they are a relative rarity and the pricing is all over the map on them.

For me if it's to high I just move on......It's the market place ,not my job to be the policeman heck I see stuff in the V.I.P. section all the time and I think SHeeeesh. I always hoped V.I.P. section would be some killer deals for V.I.P.s, not always .

Yeah, it's kinda sh1tty how people sell watches for profit these days... I'm kinda tired of hearing "the market will dictate if it's overpriced or not." That's BS - you don't sell for profit... that's against the rules and the spirit of this board/hobby.

I say let the market decide what something is worth and caveat emptor.
For some old school and rare items i would gladly pay more.
Or a better example is something that has a ton of time into both for modification and all the work that goes into, research, sourcing parts, lume, movt service etc.
I bet a lot of stuff never gets posted because people are afraid they will get flamed to death or banned for trying to get what they think something is work.

You can always not buy it...

As I am very new to this hobby, I have to agree with Jeffdodge. a) I love the idea I can have something as beautiful and well mastered for a fraction of the cost. b) The point of this hobby is not to purchase 1x singular watch for almost 1/10th- 1/5th of the cost of a gen (back to Price gouging if inflation dictates the increase), but in my eyes, for me to be able to enjoy several watches for the original price of the average rep. c) Finally if you as a hobbyist want to put 1k in gen parts into your watch, that is amazing I commend you and I enjoy every one of your pics, when you show it off, but I believe the beginning hobbyist is far from that stage and that in reality the majority is into this hobby to have fun, enjoy their new 'toy's' at a minimal to average cost aka Retail.

To all of those enriching us Noob's, make friends and share your knowledge with legendary rep pieces that you grow bored off.

As far as those who are in it to profit, what can we do. As for me, I couldn't ever spend $700 on watch or $1500 on LH Pam. But I am glad, H Factory was here to save me.

...I got from Ghost his WM9 BK LV
I paid $730 including shipping, I am about to sell it for exactly that same amount knowing very well that lots of members would be more than happily willing to offer me $1,000+

Not all members around here spend a great amount of time in these communities....there are one-time members that join for the moment trolling for that one piece, buy it and then leave...never to be seen again....they could care less about the vast amount of knowledge around here and the variety of people....those are the guys that usually pay the increased amounts.

You could always set a lower price for VIP and old-skool members and a higher price for Regular members?

I'm on both sides of this issue....I actually like the fact that my BK WM9 YM is now scarce and worth more....but then again, the market usually sets the price.

Also, just cause a guy lists something at $700...doesn't mean he gets that amount behind the scene....the buyer maybe offered $625 via PM and the seller agreed.

"Flipping" is discouraged and usually gets the post nuked. There's been occasions when people will score a watch on another forum at an insane price and put it up here for full value and vice versa. That is what the guidelines address.

That being said something like certain out of production Panerai items, old school Ti Seawolves and Chrono Avengers and others that have been out of production for a while or had limited numbers command premiums. I paid 550 bucks a couple years for my old school Seawolf. VERY fair price IMO and I was happy to pay it- can't get em any more.

Bottom line it's essentially a case-by-case basis. If something seems wrong to you guys click "Report Post", toss in a reason and we'll look into it. It's part of our job description

I was also shocked at his price today. I just sold my v2 with gen insert, crystal, crown and tube for a bit more than that to the OP! But then again if someone is willing to pay that price then it must be worth it to them. You got a steal

It happens with ANY commodity. Money is a much bigger currency than morals these days.

There's a reason vintage rolexs and panerai sell for so much.

It has been like this since the last time this topic was discussed and it will be the same in 2-3 months with another one of these threads pops up.
