Default Hello and some newbie questions!

Hey there, bit of a lurker for a while and finally going to jump in and buy a rep.

At what size wrist should i consider the larger 45.5mm watch over its 42mm counterpart? Is there a general rule of thumb? eg. when buying home cinema TV & systems theres a rule of thumb for size of screen and room size.
i know i should try both and see how they look but i was just curious if there was a general rule of thumb.

Thanks in advance and im glad i found this place

I don't think so. It is a matter of what you are comfortable with. Some people like to have a tuna can strapped to their wrist, others prefer something small and discrete. To each their own. Try a few on and see what you prefer. For me, it is the weight rather than the size. I usually like bracelets rather than leather straps, but I also like the elegance of PAMs. However, a PAM together with a PAM solid steel bracelet is way too heavy for me - so I only wear PAMs on leather. You can't tell what a watch will look and feel like until you try it on.

Welcome to the forum Noto! Stop Lurking, Start Posting!!! LOL

I have an average size 7" wrist, and I am comfortable with a watch anywhere from 39mm to 48mm.

Here is a 48mm Breitling Super Avenger on my wrist:

And here is a 40mm Rolex Seadweller on the same wrist:

The diameter isn't the only factor either. Some watches wear 'Larger' than the diameter would suggest, due to the watch thickness , lug design, shape of the case etc.. Check out the section under the General Watch Discussion area called Eye Candy. There is always a running wristies thread where you can see what folks are wearing. After a while, you will get a good idea of how a particular size/brand of watch wears.
