Greetings from Chicago
I'm new to the hobby, and like many newbies, I've been interested in reps for a while, done my fair share of lurking, but haven't yet made my first purchase.
Not that I haven't wanted to over the years, but I was always wary about quality and long term reliability - not to mention blindly ordering from overseas merchants. Plus, I own a couple of gens (nothing too special - my Omega 200m "pre-Bond" automatic is currently my daily, along with a Tag 2000 auto, and a Steinhart OVM2 as a beater), so the urge to buy a rep always seemed to fade until I saw my first vintage Tudor snowflake sub, and then noticed the price...
Since then I've been seriously considering my first purchase (a vintage Tudor snowflake naturally, and I'm debating on buying one by Phong...), and I've been spending a lot of time researching on the forum. That said, I've been floored by how much better the reps seem to have gotten, and also how customer service has improved. And the sheer number of models that are now available is staggering - I actually had no idea that you could get a vintage Tudor rep till I came here.
More importantly, I'm impressed by the forum members - as a former lurker, I've always appreciated the forum as a source of info, and the members' knowledge and opinions about both reps and gens never ceases to amaze.
All in all, this seems like a great place - I'm glad I've finally joined up, and I'm looking forward to making some real posts soon!
