A couple of years ago my consulting business took a turn, partnering with a Fortune 500 company to do work that their customers wanted but they didn't want to do.
Some of the work is in places I would never have seen if not for their business needs. Clubs that charge $5K USD for a table for the evening (and that doesn't include any drinks!), places in the middle east where a nights entertainment can cost more than most people make in a month, boutique island hotels where most of the clientele arrive by helicopter or private plane. It's been a wild ride, they want to do things differently than a normal business so they have unique needs and the money to pay for them.
A problem is I stand out like you would expect in the crowd in these places. We had the experience of having to walk out of a place on one of the French Caribbean islands when we couldn't even get waited on after getting a table. Another place we were waited on, but it was clear we were getting a whole different class of service than some of the other tables. Talking to one of the people we were working with he of course apologized, but said in the places frequented by the uber rich and celebrities the staff sizes you up and makes a decision about you immediately. He said we undoubtedly were picked as tourists who were probably going to order the cheapest thing on the menu and hang out for hours hoping to see someone famous. I joked about needing to dress to go for sushi but he said going in with a different look would probably have made all the difference in the world in how we were received. Toss on a Montecristi Fino hat, designer sunglasses, a Patek Phillipe, Vacheron Constantin or similar watch and suddenly you're not picked as a tourist there on a day trip.
I was annoyed, but absolutely can see it. We'll be back again this fall, and I just want to do a social experiment. The hat and sunglasses I've got, but a gen watch in that class certainly isn't in my budget. I'm thinking of one of the Patek Aquanaut reps or I'm liking the looks of the Vacheron Constantin Historiques Chronometre Royal 1907 rep but haven't seen anyone talking about them. Curious to hear what people think. I don't need to fool someone who is going to want to examine a watch, just staff looking at it on my wrist.
When the sushi menu includes Beluga caviar it's a sign you're in a different world...
Why would you want to risk future gigs by wearing a rep watch to try to impress somebody?
What would you say if you were called out for wearing a rep that screams fake?

I would say, "**** , I pissed away 50k on a fake? I will go to the dealer after I having my yatch captain and crew installing the gold plated toilets before we head to my private island of the coast of Spain. Thanks for you pointing out this fraudulent item!"

Not about doing this where we're working; everyone there generally knows who we are and we're treated well. But when you are somewhere for two weeks you don't want to spend every waking moment where you are working, you want to get out and see something of the area. When you go out and find yourself being judged as to if you're worthy of being allowed to spend your money someplace it's annoying.
I honestly want to go back to the same places dressed differently and just see what happens. It's worth the price of the rep to complete the costume for me...

Or "Damn, wait until I tell the prince his gift is a fake. Heads will literally be rolling..."

Have you thought about dressing as a homeless person to see what type of reaction you get?

I'm pretty sure I've never seen a homeless person in these kinds of areas so I'm thinking I'd end up in the back of a police car...

How about a homeless person wearing 2 reps?

Topics about wealth and appearing wealthy on replica watch forums are an endless mine of AIDS and brain cancer. Beware.

I've been a member on rep forums for several years now. Every time threads like this quickly derailed and turned into a shlt-swinging festival with people who know the least talking the most and the loudest. All forums about "aspirational" stuff suffer the same, anyways. Motoring forums are even worse, tbh. Which, all in all, is pretty expectable.

Honestly mate , its the attitude that gave it away the most.
Doesn’t matter how much your watch cost or if its a V9 rep or gen. Attitude says it all.
Some dude will get called out for wearing rep because he wore it like ”HEY! Look. Im wearing a rolley!”
And honestly some rich dude could rock the cheapest, ugliest rep gifted by his children or something and people wouldn’t dare second guess his watch.
So wear your rep for a hobby, fun and joy mate. If you wanna know off your wealth - save the rep budget - in cash and slap it on the table. Now see if you get waited.

I can see that now. I'd hoped to provide a bit of my 'why' but perhaps I should have just asked about the specific reps I was thinking about in another area.

Maybe you should wear rep designer clothes, 2 rep watches and a gold grill to see what type of reaction you get.

i thought this is one of the most fun threads i've seen in a while on here
until i remembered they sold Beluga caviar 2 oz for $60 including our stoned high sales tax of 10 percent at Costco on the left coast
my eldest is a serious foodie and likes to try everything
so i bought some for him
the look he gave me was one gives his father after an epic betrayal and a total loss of trust
i made it up to him by taking him out for fresh street-style pollo tacos
so many watches, so little time ... even less money !

Beluga caviar plus rep watches equals 99.9%
