    Default Banning, spoilers

Is there any chance we can have a new forum rule banning the disclosing of sports results in thread titles?

If I see a thread called "Eagles/Cowboys!" I know not to read it if I care about the result and I've not yet seen the game, but if I see one titled "Cowboys Pwn Eagles!" then my enjoyment of that match will be seriously diminished if I've not yet caught it.

In today's world of Tivo, iPlayer and BitTorrent, you can never know when people will watch sports events. With time-shifting the norm, you never know whose day/week you're ruining.

Dani's posting of the MotoGP world championship result severely angered me as I don't have the ability to watch live sports. I was avoiding all the news sites as the event was downloading to my computer and I thought the watch forums would be safe reading, but no.

Imagine your favourite sport was on but you were at work and couldn't see it, so you manage to get home to your Tivo without seeing the result and when you get home, some ******* says "Oh, by the way, your team wins, but I've not ruined it for you because I've not told you the score." That's what happened this morning.

Sorry that MotoGP post was a spoiler for ya... I don't think posting sports results is ban-worthy, though! People get excited and make posts with titles that read like news headlines.. whether it's "Sweet new Ford Mustang coming out in 2010" or "OMG, can't believe USC lost!!".. or whatever. Sucks when you don't want to know about some news and you find out anyway.. one time my friend's wife spoiled the ending of a movie I hadn't seen yet but wanted to, and believe me I was pissed. Man was I pissed. But.. it happens. If you're serious about waiting to watch a particular sporting event previously recorded, I suppose you could just stay away from radio, TV, websites, and social arenas.

No, don't ban the posters, just ban the posting of spoilers. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

    No banning.

If someone wants to post results of ANY sport event, the are welcomed, it is within their rights to do so.

What will be disapproved of is childish name calling and personal attacks.

Seems like a reasonable request. Why not make a sub-forum for Sports and not include its recent postings in the ticker.

Not all of us have x number of hours to sit around and wade through the commercials to watch the 45 minutes of actual programming.

I would agree with Pug...not in the thread title...in the body of the thread, fine.

I would equate coming into any forum akin to going to the pub. A large public place where you might hear and see anything, within reason and to whatever standards the proprietors set.

So any practical person would avoid such places as there will most likely be some people rejoicing/lamenting their teams....

What I'm asking as that this changes. It's a simple request based on courtesy and respect.

If the request is denied by the admin team, I'll understand it and respectfully ask members to show restraint.

I certainly think we can ask to please not list scores in the title of threads and/or perhaps ask the member add a: spoiler notation.

    EX:

Germany v Italy! SPOILER: score posted and discussed in thread

Ali V Frasier: Fight Results Posted

certainly worth giving it the ole college try.

just include "SPOILER" in the thread title without posting the results (in the thread title)
    should keep everyone happy.

I'm with Pug on this one!

I rarely get to watch sports live, and a "SPOILER" warning in the thread is definitely called for.

    +1 Pug- SPOT ON!

I am cool with the "spoiler" in the subject line. I would hate to see the score of the game I am about to sit and watch. I watch a lot of F1 races this way and would hate to read that Hamilton clinched the championship before I saw the actual race or something like that.

+1 - that's what everyone else on the planet does. Why should this forum be any different. It's obnoxious posting spoilers without a caveat.

So, Spoiler Dani is the only member to disagree?

I mean even sfa437 agrees with me and we rarely see eye to eye.

    Admins, what's your take?

Exactly. Next thing cats and dogs will be living together..... total anarchy!

Simple suggestion that should be a hard and fast rule for those with no couth- post "SPOILER" in your thread title so you don't **** up everyone's enjoyment of recorded sports.

Im with you on this one Pug, it can be a courtesy for the poster not to post the result on the thread and leave up to the members to click on it or not to see what is being discussed.

Out of respect for the corresponding sport and the members lets avoid posting results on the thread tittle and put it on the body of the post.
