Default how to compare dealer offers

    Hi all,

After having done weeks of homework and having read all basic studies on RepGeek as well as RWI and RWG I thing I found the rep I like best. In my case a Omega PO orange bezel either 42 or 45.
But now the next hurdle. How to compare the offers from different dealers?
I found offers in the range of 150$ to 280$ for watches based on the same movement (Swiss ETA-2836/2824 Automatic vs Swiss ETA 2824-2) and both with Sapphire Crystal with AR .

Not sure if I am allowed to post the hyperlinks of both offers .
But I mean these offers (as example)
    http://www.silix-prime.com/product.asp?id=1629
    http://www.trustytime88.com/index.ph...oducts_id=1072

How do you guys choose? Gamble on the cheapest or expecting the 280$ rep to be best quality?

I do think it is a gamble (much better than gambling with a non approved dealer though) ... and I am struggling with the same type thing... which daggum one to choose and why choose it over the one from the other dealer...

Just research and make a decision, and if you don't like it, flip it... (easier said than done for me though).

I have heard some great things on the PO from Silix but it is not the ultumate. If you want the ultimate go with Andrews. As fas as size I can only say to go bigger as that is my preference. You will not regret it.

    Wijzer,

Don't know where u are, but u're name sounds Dutch to me. If u are in Europe, think about Presious Time. He's in the UK and therefore no problems with customs.

    My 2€c

    Cheers

Well you do kinda need to figure out what you want first. The UPO from andrew, or the PO from Silix. I'd suggest reading and comparing the product threads on both dealers. There is alot of info on the subject. I bought the UPO from Andrew. If your planning on modding it ever, GET THE UPO and save yourself a headache!

    thanks for all the advise.

Alex; Yes, I am from the Netherlands (EU) too so a European dealer would indeed solve the customs problem.

So highflyingclive, is that being from EU the reason why you advise to first choose the dealer. Otherwise I can not understand why first select a dealer. As they are all 'screened' in the community they should all be rather trustworthy. What could the difference be between one dealer and another except his stock?

And as MrRadioActive said; "I'd suggest reading and comparing the product threads on both dealers".
That is exactly where I am looking for. But having read a lot of reviews, not all of them say; well I bought this watch from that dealer and these are my findings.
    http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=2548
Found this thread from a member also seeking for a UPO and wondering where to buy. The thread is not that conclusive in difference of quality.
Did anyone review say PO from Silix vs UPO from another dealer?

So hope you can push this thread a little further to the core of the case.

I'll add my opinion here - there is so much variance between watches and reps/particular runs, its almost futile to try and compare watch to watch, dealer to dealer. You can do it with a specific watch, sure, but there is not one watch completely unique/perfect to a specific dealer.

There is simply just too much dissonance since quality controls, current stock, factory parts...etc...all factor into each build. As with gen's there is a wide disparity from watch to watch, year to year and reps are no different. If you were to order 5 sub's from the same dealer, 5 months apart - I'd be willing to bet each one would be individual and different/flawed.

To quote our friend bk, "...I came across so many noobmariners that I only form one conclusion. There is a lot of variance from one watch to the next. Seriously, no dealer has one consistent watch...."

Find the dealer you like, meaning you are comfortable with their quality, shipping, communication and prior sales record and you'll be a-ok!

again, just my experience. Others may believe a watch is unique and finite/definitive to a dealer - I dont though.

good advice jcm. I've purchased 2 UPO's from andrew and both were top notch....I've dealt with andrew before and I know if I had a problem he would take care of me. I have dealt with other dealers and had great luck also. send a pm to the dealers you are interested in buying from and go from that.

    good luck

Default still wondering how to pick a dealer

So if it is the forums opinion that it is useless to compare a particular rep from dealer a to that from dealer b than what is the use of reviewing reps. The only thing you than could conclude in a review is that once dealer a had that particular rep. If you would want that rep than chances are slim you could get it.

    good luck
Still... how should one pick a dealer?
I can imagine they all have particular characteristics. Dealer a is good at servicing. Dealer b has mostly more expensive but flawless reps. Dealer c has mostly cheaper reps but still good quality....
Wonder why dealers are not reviewed in a way for instance it is done on ebay (customers satisfaction in particular areas). Or is that 'not done'?

    Default POs

Both my POs from Joshua, one of them with Asian movement and one with swiss movement. You can see it at the datewheel. Otherwise both of them just perfect(clones).

I am about to choose for Silix. They take the customs risk. Their PO is so much cheaper that I couldn't let it go.
I really do not care about minor flaws like a wrong logo on a crown or text that is alligned a micro mm too low. I do care about over-all quality like bezel allignment or strap quality and looks of course like AR.
I will keep you all posted on my findings. It's exciting as it is my first rep.
