WE LIKE THE CARS, THE CARS THAT GO VROOM! Alfa Romeo. Spyker. Rolls Royce. Maserati. Porsche. Ferrari. Talbot. Lagonda. Mercedes-Benz. Maybach. Aston Martin. Lamborghini. Bentley. Lotus. Pagani. Bugatti. Fisker. Jaguar. Caterham. Not one day goes by in the South of France where you cannot see the rarest, fastest, most luxurious, most expensive and most exotic cars in the world. Everyday. Anyday. All day. It's an utter paradise for the gear head, sybarite, professional financial geologist or amateur financial geologist. Look alive, young F.G., it's definitely here that you can cut your teeth and make it big. LOL

The car culture within this region of the world is firmly ensconced due to the whole area literally being a playground for the wannabe rich, merely rich, ultra-rich and super-rich (who are able to leap tall poor people in a single bound). I myself am not anywhere close to being a "car nut" in the traditional sense of the term but there are a number of specific models I respect if not downright admire. I don't know a great deal of facts and figures on any and every model but I DO know about more than a few brands and certain ones of their models in extreme depth, Ferrari and Lamborghini being two of those companies. Both companies have long and/or tumultuous histories upon which they draw inspiration (and sometimes from each other) without tying themselves down to old images and old attitudes; I like that. They have, and water, their roots but they always look forward to the future, pushing limits of both style, performance and prestige. I also like that some of these brands try to impart that spark of magic in many of their models; inanimate objects obviously don't have have souls, but I would venture to say that Ferrari and Lamborghini have probably gotten as close you can possibly get to giving their vehicles just that.

    I Can't Drive 55

The end of the night drew near at Notte and the party was ending . . . well, not really ending. Basically, it was gonna be one of those you don't have to go home but you can't stay here propositions. About half the people in the club, didn't show up until after midnight and none of them looked like they were about to wind down anytime soon. I suppose, if anything, the party was just gearing up for a transfer to another locale, e.g. someone's hotel room, yacht, house, alley, wherever really. So me and my friends packed it in and headed towards the door, ready to taste the salt spray of the ocean because that was our next destination. When we'd gotten outside, what I saw parked next to that black Aston nearly knocked me down! There was a 2001 Oro Elios Diablo 6.0 SE parked near the doors, which in of itself is not startling (although the color is), and what I believe was a 1958 or 1959 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series I. These two legendary automobiles are the stuff of your wildest dreams and fantasies. Each one with it's own lore, it's own special allure. While seeing a vintage Ferrari is a lot like finding Waldo, a gold colored Diablo is even more special because it is a color available only on about a third of 42 cars made in 2001, the last Diablos.

Both were very, very beautiful and very, very real. If I hadn't been yanked along by "Carly," I would probably still be standing there . . . waiting for the owners, of course. How YOU doin'? Eventually, when I got back to the Negresco and stared out the window, watching the cars glide down the Promenade, I started to think about the two cars, or any similarly unattainable status car, and wondered if there were super replicas of automobiles around, not just vehicles slapped together with glue and fiberglass parts bolted to an ancient Pontiac Fiero (to Fiero adherents, no disrespect LOL). I meant honest-to-goodness, excellently crafted replicas of high end automobiles that, performance aside for a moment, rivaled the originals. Surely there must be some or one somewhere, right? There's no way that a watch can be the only thing replicated to a high level of quality. I wasn't about to believe that, not just yet.

Most people would ask why would someone want to own a replica of a high performance automobile like a Diablo or 250 GT. And I would reply that it should be obvious as to why. Owning an exotic car or vintage cars requires you to have some money to maintain it. They require specialized parts, specialized service and often specialized storage. If you're not prepared for this fact, you can easily wind up with sticker shock, like a lot off a lot of owners, who end up selling their dream car because they were not prepared for the expenses. This is not as big a problem with certain vintage cars, like Camaros or Mustangs of which hundreds of thousands were made. When you are talking about vehicle where only 25 or 99 were made, you're looking at a parts and service availability crunch that can be discouraging and frustrating. Most people with cars like these, especially inherently flashy cars like the Diablo, really just want the attention that a car like that provides; the performance is fine and a nice bonus but most owners will never push their cars to their full limits anyway for many reasons, almost all of them pertaining to money and value of human life. A replica, a GREAT REPLICA, can sometimes provide the same psychology and visual effects most people require for significantly less. So why not take the extra money you save and do something more constructive with it than tying it up with a depreciating asset with the liquidity of a brick.

Well, for those of you window shoppers, dreamers, bargain hunters and gawkers, I managed to locate some of the best resources to make those two Italion stallions I saw in France on a balmy summer evening a reality for people with dreams bigger than their budgets or fists tighter than their clothes.

Get Out Of My Dreams; Get Into My Car:1960 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder

Everyone knows this car, even if they don't know this car. The sinewy lines and aching V-12 were showcased to very comic effect in the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The Alan Ruck character of Cameron's father owned this car and apparently loved it more than his son. Seeing how Cameron was dressed and acted throughout the movie, I can totally sympathize. Althought the same cannot be said of Cameron, there's nothing remotely nerdy or unsexy about the "clothes" covering this heavenly body; every bit of chrome, leather and aluminum on the 250 GT is tailor made to perfection which is why this car remains one of the most popular Ferrari's ever built. Modena Design built six replicas for the film before Ferrari sued to have them stopped. These replicas used a Mustang 5.0 engine and MGB frame which replicated the SWB (short wheel base) GT CS. Occasionally, of the remaining cars, some often come up for sale, like this one. The shape and style of the California being better than its cousin the Cabriolet is evident in the photos, and auction prices, but to each his own.

The 250 GT Cabriolet Series I, like the one I saw, was intended to be the semi-luxury stablemate to the 250 GT Pinifarina coupe. It was designed to look completely different than the California Spyder. The 250 line of cars produced some of Ferrari's most sough-after and successful cars, up to that point, with only the 308 and 328 being more popular. The 250 had numerous celebrity owners Steve McQueen, Raquel Welch, James Coburn and Janis Joplin (right next to her Mercedes-Benz!).

The 250 GT California Spyder was produced at the prodding of Luigi Chinetti and John Neumann, the U.S. distridutors for the brand at that time. They asked for a more sporting version of the 250 GT that could be named after Ferrari's most profitable American market. The company obliged and the 250 GT CS was born. I really prefer this car to the Pinifarina car because the lines and detailing are so much better; seemingly little things like the covered headlights, chromed side vents and sculpted tailights lend more visual interest to the design. Carrozerria Scaglietti designed all the bodies BY HAND for the California Spyders, most in aluminum whereas the Pininfarina 250 GTs were produced in steel only. Of every GT CS to come out of Italy, NOT ONE was identical to another.

Finding high quality Ferrari replicas is notoriously hard to do because Ferrari is VERY AGGRESSIVE in making sure they shut down anyone infringing on their intellectual property, no matter where they are or who they are, especially in America. I have to hand it to Ferrari in that they are fairly consistent in their protection of their name, logo and designs, for them there is no middle ground. This is why good replicas of their cars tend to be few and far between and if you do find them, they are grossly inaccurate at best or deathtraps at worse, if not both. This constant shutting down of the replica companies by Ferrari has left many of the builder's of these kits without the adequate parts and support to build the top notch vehicles one sees more often with Lamborghini. The exceptions I have seen with Ferrari, and other companies, in regards to this is when tremendously wealthy owners commission COMPLETE reproductions of certain models because driving the genuine on open roads, like the 250 GT California Spyder or Diablo VTTT, each of which is extremely valuable and quite possibly irreplaceable, is just plain impractical. Also, owners of genuine cars may not be able to get their hands on original cars, for whatever reason.

Although, replicas of the 308, 328, Testarossa, Daytona and 355 are available, most wouldn't fool even the most car ignorant person into believing the car was anything other junk. I really believe that if you plan on getting a replica of a Ferrari, to stick with vintage models. The one company making a vintage model that's exceptional is CalSpyderII, using the Mark Goyette design that Modena Design made famous in Ferris Bueller. Just like the real car in the 1950s and 1960s, the car is mostly handcrafted, using some modern ISO quality control methods to ensure a spectacular finished product. The car is, in watch speak, "sterile" and free of incriminating badges and logos that would draw the ire of Ferrari (add them later!). They offer turnkeys (a wholly completed car) and even kits for the more mechanically inclined. You can expect one of these replicas to cost from $75,000 to $85,000, depending on options chosen. The biggest problem I have are with the seats which, while undoubtedly safer, greatly affect the top down lines of the car; I suspect they can be swapped for something more correct.

The car doesn't just mimic the glamour quotient of the original, like so many replicas, it also has the performance specs to match and even trump the genuine car. The chassis is completely new and constructed to be not just rigid, for crash safety, but a high degree of torsional stiffness (important for a convertible), which greatly reduces road shake in all driving conditions. The engine usually selected over the standard Ford 302 with an adequate 235bhp, is the Ford Racing 302 which outputs 350bhp, mated to a Tremec T5 World Class transmission. The weight distribution is almost perfect, 49/51, and GVW is just over one ton, meaning a power-to-weight ratio of about 10lbs. for the standard 302 or 6.71lbs for the FR 302. And unlike most Ferrari replicas, this interior is the absolute closest to the genuine car that I found, with real Connolly leather covering all exposed surfaces. It is important to note that, properly attended to, the interior could be indistinguishable from the genuine.

The great part about this is that all parts are brand new and many are Ford sourced so running and maintenance costs are nominal!

Baby Wants To Ride (For Love): 2001 Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 VT

I have a true soft spot for Lamborghini in my heart, the man and the machine, because of what I feel his brand represents. I believe the car and the company embodies a spirit of true rebellion, unbridled passion and fierce individuality, something I identify with greatly. Lamborghini history, the car company not tractor company, actually has it's roots in Ferrari, with the GT 250 actually. Ferrucio Lamborghini owned three different 250s and was constantly having clutch problems with them, due in part to slippage. The 250s typically had no clutch problems under "normal" usage but if driving got too vigorous, the clutch could not withstand the force. Lamborghini was tired of getting his clutches replaced or rebuilt, so he made an appointment to speak with Enzo Ferrari himself about this obvious design flaw and how he could possibly solve it. Ferrari told Lamborghini the reason he was having so many problems was because while he could drive a tractor easily enough, he would never know how to drive a Ferrari properly. At this, Lamborghini went home and had the mechanics in his tractor factory install a larger, more durable Borg & Beck clutch and new cylinder heads, of his own design, with twin cams instead of an SOC. Soon, his modified 250 was blasting past Ferrari test drivers in other 250s, much to their astonishment. Well, the rest is history, as they say. Ferrari's fiery nature and arrogance is and was well-known and well-documented throughout the automotive world. His refusal to sell his company to Ford after millions of dollars in audits and months of negotiations back in the 1960s is what brought about the creation of the mythical GT40. So it seems Ferrari has fathered more supercars than is at first apparent.

My first experience with a Diablo was fairly recently. I'd known about the car, like most people, seeing it parked sometimes outside the most popular Baltimore or Washington, D.C. venues or parties, along with other supercars. But I had never driven or ridden in one before. Well, one of my colleagues actually ended up purchasing one and asked me if I wanted to go for a ride, his second passenger. You probably already know that Posh, Certified F.G., wouldn't pass up this chance to be seen in a 14 feet long and seven foot wide Arancio Atlas colored Diablo, like this one pictured below, so I agreed! I will probably never forget how I had to get into that damn car.

Let me first say that getting into any exotic car that is low to the ground is hard enough, even for men. I recall once getting into the Murciélago, which I'd actually experienced way before the Diablo ride came along. It was fair easier and as I wondered why it wasn't so with the Diablo, it dawned on me: I was wearing a skirt. My colleague offered to help me in but I KNEW what would happen if he did. My skirt was a tulip shape, not a particularly tight one but it provided me with several challenges. Now, I could've done a Brittany Spears or Paris Hilton and gotten into the car like a crusty old wh*re but unlike those skanks, I've got nothing but class, thank you very much. So after I took a quick swig of whisky from my flask, spit and finished my cigarette, I sat on the door sill with my legs facing straight ahead, knees together. I slowly inched my behind backwards toward the bucket seat, leaning slowly back with a hand on the scissor door and roof, and let my weight tip me into place. I was now planted somewhat on the seat but at this point, my knees are on the door sill and my feet are off the ground. To make sure there was going to be Lohans pulled, I quickly brought my thighs to my chest and swung my legs up and over the sill, without touching the door, sill or dash. It was the most time I'd EVER taken to get into a car EVER. I highly suggest for any of you ladies to make sure there's no one near your side of the car when you do this because you're GUARANTEED to give anyone standing nearby a show. And I will not even begin to tell about the indignity that is exiting such a monster. LOL

My friend loved the car but the attention that was so wonderful for him in the beginning began to irritate him after some time; a hardcore time manager, he learned early on in the ownership he would have to plan his errands or jaunts in the car to include an extra hour just for the crowds and chat sessions that almost always occurred. These "Q & A intervals," as he called them, lasted usually thirty minutes when he arrived somewhere and had been seen OR at least thirty minutes when he managed to get someplace unnoticed and came back to people standing around his car. I saw this firsthand and the people asked some WILD questions and made some RI-C*CK-CULOUS requests. Not just, "Can I get in your car?," which is unusual but normal, and not necessarily out of pocket. No, I heard: "Can you take me to my friend's house in it real fast?" WHAT?!

Before I go any further, let me say that the genuine Diablo is NOT like the genuine Murciélago in terms of manners. Both are as different as night and day, I would estimate. The Diablo is pure, raw power and is like the proverbial bull loose in a china shop; the car couldn't possibly be driven on a daily basis. But that untamed quality is why many people actually LOVE this car. The Murciélago, on the other hand, is so much more civilized and poised, it's almost like the two cars aren't even from the same family, or if they are, one was definitely sent to finishing school (Murciélago) and the other (Diablo) went but got expelled and was forced into prostitution. It's a known fact that the beast that lurks just behind the driver's head, just a heartbeat away in Diablo, while not absent in the Murciélago, is more firmly leashed thanks to the Audi techno-wizadry. And it must be said that the Murciélago is not a replacement for the Diablo because each caters to the needs of two different types of clients. It's the Diablo's scarcity (between 2,000 to 2,500 were built) and it's very unique driving character which have stabilized it's depreciation, with there now being a perceptible increase in the values of certain models. In contrast, the Murciélago is nowhere near being scarce; they made twice as many in a five year period that the Diablo didn't achieve in it's whole 12 year run. It's nothing personal, just business.

Lamborghini, S.p.A. has changed hands many, many times over the years. After declaring bankruptcy in 1978, it was sold to the Mimran brothers of Switzerland. In 1987, Chrysler purchased the company from them and inherited the plans for the Countach successor, which was needed to keep the Sant'Agata company and its flagship in the forefront of supercar fold. Chrysler made only minor changes to the design and released the car in 1990 with most owners getting their cars in 1991. Years passed and Chrysler, due mostly to internal bickering on both sides of the pond, was decided to sell the company to a consortium of three Indonesian firms lead by Megatech with VPower and Sedtco in tow, under whose fairly good stewardship would be seen the rise of Lamborghini's sales and revenues to unprecedented levels worldwide. But due to negative economic climate within Southeast Asia, which restricted the amount of funding for future projects within Lamborghini, the consortium sold the company to Audi, a car company owned by European automotive behemoth Volkswagen. The 6.0 was produced under the Volkswagen/Audi years and considered the best Diablo made up to that point. They revised the suspension, increased the engine displacement, upgraded the exhaust system, improved the chassis and made most of the body out of carbon fiber except for the roof and the doors. All this together noticeably increased performance.

The one person who, de facto, made the finest Diablo 6.0 in America, as part of a small company he started with his son that is no longer operational, is Dale Van Blokland of Lambobuilder. He appears to be one of the perfect spokespeople for this cottage industry because he's been a home builder and the head of a company and knows the benefits and frustrations of both. In replica automobile circles, his name is spoken of with the reverence usually reserved for names like Shelby and Moss. His exploits within the Diablo replica world is detailed in words and pictures at his website, beginning with one of his first projects, a Diablo Roadster that he created when there were NO resources available to home automobile builders. Since that time, things have exploded in the information realm on how to build one of these vehicles from start to finish. His Roadster and 6.0 both contained General Motors V8s, one a Northstar, and one a brand new GM LS1 crate engine with a 320bhp on tap, respectively. Unlike the Ferrari above, to make sure that when lifting the hood you see a "6.0 V12," which is a highly detailed engine cover attached to the GM V8, moving with engine to complete the illusion. His vehicle has been entered in numerous events and has won almost every single time. His car has been amongst actual cars and has raised not one eyebrow which is as it should be with any replica of anything.

    Lambobuilder, Dale Van Blokland

I was granted an interview with the very gracious Mr. Van Blokland and got his take on the state of automotive replica world now, the build process and what he's learned from it on the whole:

Posh: As the technology that is available to replica makers becomes similar, if not identical, to that of the original manufacturers, "super replicas" of watches, bags and clothes are becoming more and more pervasive. Do you think that the same is also becoming true of the kit/component car market?

Dale Van Blokland: Not really. The biggest difference is the complexity of the end product which is a fully functioning automobile.

Posh: I think that buying replicas of most things just makes good sense financially; I can think of many other reasons but for me that would be at the top. What do you feel is the best reason to own a replica of a supercar over the actual car?

DVB: While the financial component is certainly one of the driving forces in owning a replica, I think one that is just as compelling is that you are able to enjoy the car and actually drive it on a regular basis as opposed to keeping it in a garage for fear that you may need to incur maintenance costs. After all, the reason most people want an exotic car is to show that they are different from the normal crowd. I know of several owners of authentic Lamborghinis who purchased replicas so that they could enjoy driving them on a regular basis because they enjoy the look and styling of the car. The replicas enable them to do that.

Posh: Your Diablo 6.0 is, quite simply, astonishing. What do you feel has been some of the obstacles for kit/component car manufacturers and private builders to get to the level of quality you've achieved?

DVB: Most companies start off with the "finished product;" in other words, they create a fiberglass shell that is a reproduction of the original vehicle. They want the $300,000 look. The hard part now comes with creating a sound, reliable and functional vehicle that you can put under this image. Most companies that start in this business can create a good looking product but very few can offer the whole package. By this, I mean, how do you build a car that will accept a body and still look like a production vehicle. The least expensive option for most builders was to use a donor car. The Pontiac Fiero being one of the most used. This is a vehicle that is at least 20 years old, if not older. The issues with this is that the wheel base was not correct, which meant you literally have to saw the car in half and make it 11” longer. If not done properly, you immediately induce some potential safety issues in your product. The second aspect is the width of the wheels is not correct so you have to add spacers or change the offset on the rims to approach the look of the original car. This never works as that is the first thing that people will look at and when they see the deep dish rims, they immediately know it is not a "genuine" car.

My roadster was built on a Fiero [chassis] and it has the deep dish rims that illustrate my point. But what made my Diablo 6.0 so realistic, is that we started with a hand built chassis that was an exact copy of the original car. At this point, you have the frame work and suspension you need to replicate the genuine look. However, with that come a whole new set of issues. There is no engine, transmission, brakes, A/C, radiators, wiring, etcetera; this all has to be designed and installed. While all the components are readily available, there is not instruction manual on how to do this. All of theses things take time and money to create a product. This is the typical R&D part that any manufacturer has to go through. When we built the Diablo 6.0 on the replica chassis, we were the first to ever do this. The results were amazing! The look was as close to the genuine article as had ever been done. What topped it off was the installation of an engine cover that replicated the V12. This was on top of the brand new Corvette [LS1] engine. This particular car has been parked next to production vehicles from Lamborghini and was seen as the "real deal." Because this vehicle had raised the bar, this induced a whole new set of obstacles, one of them being education. We had essentially replicated a $300,000 car for $100,000. What we now faced was educating potential buyers that this was not a "kit car" but essentially a reproduction/replica that had numerous benefits over the cost of an original car. Primarily the initial investment, but beyond that the cost of maintaining a vehicle. Most owners of Lamborghinis limit the driving because of the cost of maintaining the vehicle; we had eliminated that issue.

Posh: As you stated, there is no real manual available to someone who wants to build any type of vehicle, especially a replica of a supercar. Does your instructional CD take "the mystery" out of building a vehicle from scratch, so to speak?

DVB: When I built my roadster, I knew there was a need for a comprehensive manual. I wrote a 300+ page manual and made it available for free as a download at here. This was based on the Fiero and it is quite dated now. I now have a Build CD that shows over 1500 photos of the build process we went through but it is not a manual. I have a work in progress that will be an on line manual that takes you step by step through the process but it is not completed. There are lots of on line forums now that were not available when I first started building. Sites like KitCentral and LamboLounge are probably two of the best for a builders site.

Posh: Do you feel that your being a professional engineer made it easier for you to build a better replica than most people?

DVB: It probably helped but more importantly is the desire. As a friend of mine once said, You have to want to BUILD a car, not just drive one. Unfortunately, only about 3% of those who start ever complete one. That is why a quality turnkey is an excellent solution for those who lack the skills and/or time to tackle this type of project.

Posh: Your Diablo Roadster, for the most part, and especially your Diablo 6.0 I would consider "super replicas," because your eye for detail externally and within the interior is exquisite. From the limited research I have done so far, I think more Lamborghini replica makers tend to be like this. Are there any replica Ferrari makers, company or private person, who shows the level of commitment you and other Lamborghini replica enthusiasts do?

DVB: Since we completed the Diablo 6.0, it has been a benchmark in the industry. The use of a replica chassis became one of the driving forces in creating a top-of-the-line reproduction. There were several companies who developed plans and a few that offered rolling chassis to builders. There are several builders who have completed exceptional cars and there are still many under construction. There are also a few builder/manufactures who have continued to take the industry to a whole new level by developing new products or improvements to make it easier for the builders. That has come with a price. Ferrari for many years has been notorious for shutting down anyone making a replica of their cars. While there are many body kits out there, they are not very public. If they do show a public presence, they receive contact from the legal firm representing Ferrari and this normally results in the destruction of molds and other penalties designed to stop the efforts of creating replicas. Lamborghini has recently taken a similar position and issued cease and desist orders to nearly every USA and Canadian manufactures. Even going so far as to bring legal action against some and drive them out of business. These were the companies who were providing many of the innovations which helped to make these cars a reality for many people.

The other side of the coin is there are many companies who have posted websites offering “Super Replicas” showing lots of pictures of genuine vehicles and offering these complete cars at a ridiculously low price. I have had to take action against several of these companies that were using photos of my car and chassis on their site advertising it as their own. This kind of deceptive practice makes it very difficult for a potential consumer to know who is legitimate.

Posh: It seems that most kit/component car companies come and go quite frequently. What company is operating right now that makes what you consider the most accurate (visually, of course) Lamborghini replica, regardless of model? [Who has the best Sub? LMAO!]
DVB: There are very few companies that I am aware of that make an outstanding replica. However, I am aware of at least three companies who are looking to develop a product line of replicas that will be completely assembled, warranted and be sold through franchise; one is a company located Brazil called Scuderia Marinelli that has created an excellent product. This company has created innovative solutions and has delivered exceptional customer service. If I were still in business, this is the company that I would use.

Posh: Thank you so much, Mr. Van Blokland, for fitting me into your schedule, speaking with me and giving our members so much great information.

DVB: Posh, anytime. You're very welcome. And thank you for not bringing your pick ax and shovel!

(If you'd like to know more, contact mr. Van Blokland here.)

Vincent Balboni, chief test driver for Lamborghini, S.p.A., with PD's 6.0. Apparently, everyone at the event thought it was real.

To European RepGeek members, I didn't forget you! There is a company that seems to be doing replicas of Lamborghinis that are offering fit and finish, performance and support of the level that was offered by Mr. Van Blokland. Parallel Designs of the U.K. are offering replicas of some of the rarest Diablos ever made; the only visually accurate Diablo GTR replica was made by this firm. Their replicas also include many modern conveniences like traction control and antilock-brakes. I encourage you to visit their very interesting site when you have a free moment because it is very engrossing.

As most of you have already noticed, the names for almost all my articles come from the world of music, be it a lyric, song or album title. Some that are chosen are well before time and others not so much. The title of these two articles comes from Fatboy Slim's third studio album. He got the idea for the title, which meshes well with the photo of the album cover, from a line spoken by Lady Darlington in the Oscar Wilde play Lady Windermere's Fan that goes: "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." I think that sentiment encapsulates the whole experience of my trip, buying replicas or just about anything that we as humans do. But I definitely think Fatboy Slim changed it enough to reflect where we are now. Not ALL of us are still in the gutter and we're all not yet totally in the stars but we are in middle and moving higher everyday.

Please feel free to leave any comments, questions or ideas. I love to hear from everyone, especially Ferrari and Lamborghini aficionados who want to take me task because the some of the info may be inaccurate.

Yep. But I was the popular, smart girl. I was called The Quintessential Southern White Girl back in high school. But I was unorthodox in that way too. I DO NOT like guns.

Your comment reminds of Hilary Clinton's high school days. She was notorius for doing more work than was required in all her classes.

    Posh, you little minx.
Those pictures were taken at dawn after a jam packed night. Which is, of course, the only civilized way to see dawn.

You should have a 250 CS. Now. While you're young enough to enjoy it .
I don't know what your color is but girls always look very magnetic in yellow cars. Yellow cars announce : " I am femme and very much fatale " unlike white cars which just say " I am femme."
Men don't look good in yellow cars. Maybe dark men of the Latin variety.

The Diablo never did it for me. Too futuristic and I am NOT part of the future. Also, not mentioned but a very real annoyance if not downright hazard are the yokels who tailgate you with their tongues lolling, hoping for.... what ? A contact high ?

The only truck I've ever had with a Ferrari is in David Letterman's Dino, really a Fiat which is really a Ferrari.
No, not with Dave. Too toxic and the cigar smoke would make me retch but with the owner of a shop where the car was being detailed. A clandestine ride at dawn on Long Island Sound and yes, after a fun-filled night.

Exiting a car : I refer you to a scene in " The Group " ( 1966 ) where Candace Bergen orders the cab to stop and gets away pronto from her poisonous college roomates. Straight skirt, knees together, fling the legs out the door while pivoting on your ass...quite a trick but very imperious and lady-like and engraved upon my memory.

Did you just call me a minx? WTF?! LOL

While that sounds like that would work for a cab, and I know that movement from exciting SUVs, it would NOT work in a Diablo. My friend basically had to lift me out in one swoop. If I was wearing jeans or slacks, i would have been fine. It's like sitting in a snug coffin.

Thanks, D. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I managed to get a recharge that invigorated before winter. I'll be due again next year.

I do have rep watches. I have two replicas and two genuines. I'm very picky about watches I would wear. But I love watches as much as anyone else around here. I mean, I do talk about them. I just talk about other stuff too!

And yes, I attack everything with gusto. The new millenium really demands it. I'm Superwoman!

Wow. So I knew NOTHING about these cars before I read this post, and now I feel like I could discuss them amongst others. Where do you learn all this? How do you find the time? And how do you end up sharing it all with so many of us for FREE?

Thank you so much for your posts. I'm simply honored.
